is 14.4MPG normal for a quatrro Audi A6? I think its too low as I have a CEL showing on the dashboard.

Is this city or freeway? Not knowing how you drive or the maintenance history it would be hard to tell. To me it sounds too low. Do you have a baseline that you can compare it to?

First thing to check is to read that code. I know a bad o2 sensor (if that is the code you pull) can cause severely bad mpg.

What year of Audi A6 are you refering.

14.4mpg for city driving could be fair for that 2.8 Audi A6, I am sure the AUDI guru in the house could say better...


from your readings however, it seems you are burning a litre of fuel for every 6.5km you travel...

just as I said, for your kinda ride, it might not be too bad for city driving, especially Lagos

The CEL is one issue. You should take care of that.

This is my limited hypothesis:

The owner's manual states 17/17 mpg using a minimum of 91 octane. Your results are as a reflection of a results using 87 or less octane. There is no way around it. The car was designed to burn cool (slow).

The CEL is another issue. There is no information to support that.


If the mileage seems unreasonable to you, sell the car and get another or supplement it. If you are in the United States, you aren't getting the 17/17 because the flash has been reduced drastically.
