a1solution: Coding languages are bcoming too many. Just learn 3 or 4 that's all
i would say just 1 on each division/branch. i.e, 1 for web development, 1 for desktop, 1 for mobile, 1 for hardware programing etc.

And most times, 1 covers 2 branches e.g Java for desktop and mobile.

Why would anyone want to use anything Adobe? The world is running away from adobe and you are running to it? Adobe and their products are too bugging and heavy. You will have to pay me good money to touch it with my little finger... grin

You cannot be a good programmer if u knw only one language. Some tasks suit some languages while others suit other languages for e.g if u r writing a program where speed is critical ur best bet is C÷÷ relative to java, did interviews wit Google and d 1st tin dey tested was my ability to code in several languages b4 delving into algorithms. So to alll dose who just wanna specialise in one language dats a wrong step because every language has it's demerits

look at this one ooo...

most apps are moving their front-end to flex, so as to make it easily integratable with BlazeDs...for data fetching....you are here saying people are running away from it...

While developing i hope you guys care much about information security. I think the trend/challenge is not just to develop a scalable app but a secure one as well. It bits my imagination when i tend to test the securities vulnerabilities of most apps in nigeria. Most of them i must say are not really secure including those from financial institutions. I just pity them. Its high time they started having in-house security programmers for effective customization rather than relying on foreign security apps in which in most cases tend to be generic, hence a security crack on such apps applies to all institutions making use of it.

I understand the joy that comes with programming in as3. It's a great and fulfilling language. the kind of joy you feel when coding in python.

Those saying adobe is dying needs to do some research.

Fellow Nigerians!

Why the craze for so many languages? I think I now believe what my HOD told me in a class few years back about our attitude: 99%CONSUMERS-1%PRODUCERS.

You don't need to know all programming or scripting languages on earth to create the next BIG Software! You need just TWO:

One for The WEB.
One for Desktop.

For instance, I personally go with JAVA (for obvious reasons) and PHP (for some other obvious reasons). To me that's all I need to know to succeed.

If I ever get a job demanding expertise in some other languages, I'll either sub-contract it or turn a blind eye. Moreover, which client is knowledgeable enough to tell you WHAT PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE TO USE for his job.

Let's stop this JACK-OF-ALL attitude and become experts in ONE! This to me is better than spending a sizable chunk of our lifetime getting half-baked in many languages and creating almost nothing in the end.

The World will not Judge You By How Many Programming Languages You Have Mastered, But by How Many Applications you have developed.

I am not saying Learning FLEX/AS3 is not good, but that Too Much of Everything is Bad! If you have not learnt programming in your life before, you might want to start by trying the all-in-one FLEX. But if you've got so much on your table, start Developing SOLUTIONS - that to me is what the world want from us.

This is just my humble opinion. Thanks for your time.
