cool

Great philosophers are great thinkers. But what emphasis does society put on this? Does people actually know what philosophy is about? Do you?

Life itself is philosophical, trying to make sense of the whole emptiness.Today you watch your loved one, friend or enemy being buried, knowing fully well your faith is coming, and yet you want to go out there with head high, sweat, cheat, kill, conquer to acquire the things of the world.Does it really make sense?

philosophy and all the philosophical thinkers shaped the politics, the way of life and everything in between the wold we live in today so they actually play a role and have an impact in each and every single person's life you only need to read thomas hobbes leviathan, john lockes second treates rousseau, the prince aristotle and his theories on the polity amongst other thinkers of note

I would like to meet someone who would actually take time to read Leviathan.

Of all the classics, the only readable ones in my opinion are Macchiavelli and Adam Smith

But for more contemporary thinkers, abeg i implore you to read Keynes's Essays in Persuasion. It is the most revealing, incisive and prescient writing.
Especially his politcal essays. He more than anyone else has influenced the direction of Economic policy in the World today.

You can also try his adversary Hayek's Road to Serfdom, for the classic case against Socialism.

get what you mean but the way i see it,even if you read it through like a novel you wouldnt get the essence of the books because its realli more of reading a chapter and pondering and turning it over in your mind for weeks even months, i beg to differ and i believe they all without exception have diffrent roles to play in one's life, ill look for the keyne's essays in persuation because i frankly have not read it befor, have you read anthonio gramsci's writins especially the pre-prison ones which tend to be focused on politics and the workings

Hmm. . , well i did read some chapters of Leviathan, because I had to.

No I haven't read Antonio Gramsci, I am afraid. I am more into political-economists.

If you do get the Keynes book, I especially recommend the essays 'Economic Possibilities for our Grandchildren', 'Means to Prosperity', 'A short view on Russia', 'Mr Clissold' and the 'Economic Consequences of the Peace'. . . .

I saw your opinions on capitalism on the Cuba thread, and I cannot think of a better riposte than Keynes for you.
