Lai Mohammed’s Disinformation Tactics - Abati by Maxymilliano(m): 8:29pm On Apr 07, 2013
STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

Lai Mohammed’s Public Disinformation Tactics

In a previous press statement, we had pointed out that a well organized campaign by the opposition designed to mislead the public, discredit the person and office of President Goodluck Jonathan, and cause disaffection within the polity appears to be well afoot. That there is an emerging pattern of disinformation and politics by trickery, orchestrated by Lai Mohammed and his ilk which is unsuitable to our democratic experience is now no longer in doubt.

We have been proven right, once more, with the deliberate disinformation engaged in today by the National Publicity Secretary of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

Recall that last week, we were regaled with the publication of a fictitious “Presidential Directive” on Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, APC and other matters which turned out to be a dubious bromide containing nothing more than “a mishmash of carefully arranged and concocted lies, presented to the public as evidence of a document emanating from the presidency.”

A press conference in Lagos, this Thanksgiving Sunday, addressed by Alhaji Lai Mohammed continued this pattern when he alleged that the Federal Government was deliberately promoting policies that will plunge the nation into crisis with the objective of scuttling the 2015 elections. He tried to exploit real challenges confronting the nation by instilling fear in the populace through the use of unrelated events; hoping to use such patterns and trends to build a conspiratorial case. Like all conspiracies, the case made fell quickly like a pack of cards when confronted with the facts.

It is a fact that President Goodluck Jonathan has presided over major elections since his assumption of office – the 2011 general elections, the 2012 state gubernatorial elections in Edo, Kogi, Adamawa, Sokoto, Cross River and Bayelsa as well as other elections in different parts of the country; which were all adjudged by local and international observers as free, fair and peaceful. Indeed, President Jonathan’s commitment to electoral reforms which is founded on the ‘one man-one vote’ ethos underscores the administration’ s belief and commitment to an emerging political culture that is inclusive, participatory and transparent.

When juxtaposed against Lai Mohammed’s allegations, it would appear to any discerning citizen that Alhaji Mohammed is engaged in disinformation, the likes of which we heard ahead of the elections referenced above, thus suggesting a well worn tactic.

The integrity of elections is without doubt one of the major achievements of this administration. It remains a legacy issue for President Jonathan. Lai Mohammed’s allegations of tenure elongation, instigation of violence, likely emergency rule, and a sinister plan that will make free and fair elections impossible in 2015 are entirely hollow and a figment of his imagination.

More specifically and to buttress his conspiratorial claim, the ACN spokesman alleged that the Federal Government has awarded an oil pipeline protection contract to serve as a smokescreen to fund activities that would create chaos in the South-West. Fact is, no such contract was ever awarded by this administration.

The more alarming aspect of the disingenuous press conference was the deliberate attempt to exploit religious and ethnic differences amongst citizens to create a state of siege and fear ahead of the 2015 elections. This was clear in the use of the national Boko Haram crisis and the ‘terror-baiting ’ of the populace. Is the ACN hatching a plot of electoral violence through auto-suggestion ?

While it is legitimate to seek political power, the ACN has an obligation to be responsible with facts and remain truthful with the evidence at all times; and to engage the government of the day constructively on issues of national importance; and not negatively Consistently stitching together a tissue of lies, extracted from a fantastic imagination, with the intention to scare and mislead the public belongs to the realm of jungle politics we are all happy to be rid of.

We urge the public to pay careful attention to the tactics of those who believe that by crying wolf where none exists, they can create doubt about the efforts of the Jonathan administration. These allegations are blatantly false and grossly misleading.

Reuben Abati

Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) to the President

Tompolo tackles security of Nigerian waters
On September 4, 2012 · In Sweet Crude 12:57 am 8Tweet

By Godwin ORITSE

THE recent maritime security contract awarded to Chief Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo did not only raised dust amongst politicians and players in the maritime industry, it has also received international condemnation.

The highly respected Wall street Journal about two weeks ago castigated the Nigerian government for patronizing bandits and turning them into billionaires.

The contract which was not thrown up for bidding was facilitated for approval by the management of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety agency (NIMASA) headed by Mr. Patrick Akpobolokemi.

The contract is a form of agreement between the Federal Government and Global West Vessels Specialist Limited which indicates that the security of the nation’s coastal waters by the agreement was concessioned to the firm.

The contract, Akpobolokemi explained that firm will only be paid if and when NIMASA as an entity makes profit due to the company’s intervention in reducing or eliminating the issue of oil theft and piracy on the nation’s coastal waters.

This arrangement does not include the N49.7million paid to Global West Vessels on a monthly for monitoring the waters in Lagos.

The proposal to monitor Lagos waters has been in NIMASA for more than four years as the two previous directors general did not see the need for it.

The promoters of the Lagos angle of the deal proposed that it can offer to monitor the Lagos waters for free, but that N50million be paid to the firm for the fueling of the four or five rickety and smoky boats and pay the boys that will be responsible for the boats which the firm said it donated to NIMASA.

This was about the very first deal that Akpobolokemi approved for Tompolo when he assumed office in December 2011.

As at the time of this report, the said amount of money is still being paid to Global West vessels on a monthly basis.

The claim that the issue of oil theft has reduced by 70% by Akpobolokemi has been debunked by operators and marine security experts who wondered how the NIMASA boss arrived at that figure.

Reacting to the claim of reducing oil theft by 70%, President of Master Mariners Association of Nigeria (MMAN) Captain Jimi Adu, challenged the NIMASA management to substantiate their claims with data and proof adding that the international Oil Companies (OICs) have been sustaining loses for some time.

Adu, who debunked Akpobolokemi’s claims adding that some of the major oil firms operating in the Niger Delta area have been sustaining losses for some time. “May be the attack on vessels and platforms have reduced but that is not to say that we have gotten to where we are going.”

According Captain Solomon Prebo, a Warri based marine pilot said that he can speak of the situation in Delta state adding that the issue of oil theft reduced.

He also stated that the issue of theft in the Niger Delta area is a serious cartel noting that in Bayelsa state oil theft is very much on but in collaboration with some members of the Joint Task Force (JTF)who are heavily in the unwholesome practice.

Mr. Zeb Ikokide, vice Chairman of the Port Facility Security Officers Forum said that s aid that the claim by the NIMASA’s Director General is a far cry from what is obtainable on the coastal waters. “They can say these things because they are the beneficiaries of the contract.

Ikokide explained that port security personnel working in and around the maritime industry including oil rigs and other platforms are in better position to say the true position of the situation with regards to the issue of oil theft.

Sincere 9gerian: Lai Muhammed, the LIAR, have done it again.

How can a party which thrives on naked LIES be trusted on anything?

You mean PDP, right? This same Reuben Abati that lied that Patience went for vacation in Germany while she was a patient in an hospital!

PDP thrives on lies. Errmm the greatest lie in the world is "Fresh air". What is fresh air? Are they going to distribute air freshner to every home? Or is PDP starting a fresh air company? Another lie was "I had no shoes". How does that affect the lives of the electorate? Someone who really had no shoe would provide shoes all for Niger delta kids by now. Mind you "shoe" is a figurative word here. Some people fell for it though. Campaign filled with lies.

PDP came up with Vision 2010. Vision 2010 was the year the party enriched themselves the most. Now, its Vision
2020...Now its "Nigeria will be in the top 20 economy by 2050" while they racket money into swiss accounts. LIARS

If nigerians have a good memory, they'd remember when GEJ said Boko Haram will end by June 2012. He also said electricity problems would end in 4months. How many jobs did he say he was gonna create each year? He even said he was gonna spend a single term. After three months in power he tried to change the constitution to make single term last 7years. Or didn't y'all remember that he said he would fight corruption? LIES.

"A committee to give a white paper report on Ribadu's subsidy recommendations" LIES! "We will provide energy saving bulbs to each home" LIES.

The good news is that our senses are keener. We know the party is filled with lies and we want change.

God bless Nigeria!

By the way, the POLICE is looking for those PROPAGANDIST who shamelessly FORGED a supposedly Presidential Letter in an attempt to hookwick the Public:

LAGOS—The management of Leadership newspapers will this morning honour an invitation by the Police at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The invitation followed a publication in its newspaper, Wednesday April 3, 2013, entitled “Outrage trail presidential directive on Tinubu, APC.”

Leadership said since that publication, the police had besieged its offices, particularly after its follow-up publication on Thursday entitled “Bromide of the Presidential directive” which was in response to denials of the report by presidential spokesmen, Doyin Okupe and Reuben Abati.

“After we published the bromide of the presidential directive, we provoked a raft of police visitations on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Today, Sunday, we received the invite to report at the Nigeria Police Headquarters, Abuja by 10 am Monday and we intend to honour the request.”

A copy of the invitation sighted by Vanguard, read in part: “This office is investigating the circumstances leading to your front page publication entitled ‘Outrage trail Presidential directive on Tinubu, APC‘ and a sub title captioned ‘Bromide of the presidential directive.’ The publication which featured in your Wednesday, April 3, 2013 edition was reported by the trio of Messrs Tony Omokeodo, Chibuzor Ukaibe and Taiwo Ogunmola-Omilani.

“Based on our facts finding efforts, you are hereby requested to release the above mentioned reporters to interview the Deputy Inspector General of Police D Department (FCID) on Monday April 8, 2013 at 10000hrs… Note that its your civic and corporate responsibility to assist police investigation by honouring its invitation in the interest of justice and due process.”

What you wrote about the President in yur previous comment isn't PROPAGANDA nor is it really LIES per se (except for one).

- WHen a President any where in the world say they would do a particular thing at a specific time, they are not called LIARS or Propagandists if they fail to meet up, cos there are usually other complex factors in Matters of Sate that may slow the attainment of that PLEDGE. The President said he would tame BH at a specific time. He didnt LIe. He and his Security Chiefs did their Best but the problem is unfortunately still with us, albeit on a much lower frequency than it was when he made that pledge. He NEVER LIED.

- He Never said that he was going to solve Power plroblem in 4 months (that was your own LIE there)
