Lagos state is rich enough to put smiles on the face of its pensioners. It's a shame that this is happening in Nigeria's richest state. Gov. Fashola, pay your state's retired senior citizens, please! They must not die in penury after working hard for the state for many decades.

When it's GEJ it is a trending topic but if it's someone else everybody turns blind eyes to it.

Which other Nigerian state is richer than Lagos state? According to world Bank, Lagos has an annual GDP Of over $45 billion. This figure could make Lagos the 5th largest economy in Africa, if it were a country. Lagos state is Nigeria's numero unno!

It's unfortunate that the plight of pensioners is often overlooked in Nigeria. Even the federal government is a culprit in this issue.

Hypocrite. People turn a blind a eye to it because unlike GEJ, Fashola is paying them their monthly pension and is only owning them their gratuities unlike GEJ who is owing some of his pensioners several years of unpaid pension and gratuities.
People know surely they will be paid soon by Fashola unlike your GEJ.

It seems the message Nigeria governments are sending to civil servants is: steal enough when you're young and active, or you're dead on arrival if you're hoping for your pensions when you retire. What a way to build a robust civil service! A once reliable Nigerian civil service is now a shadow of its former image. Corruption Incorporated!!

Friday, April 12, the US raised its nuclear alert status to DEFCON 3, Condition Yellow (out of 5 levels), stating “There are currently no imminent nuclear threats against the United States at this time, however the situation is considered fluid and can change rapidly.” Many believe that North Korea will launch their test missile on or about April 15. Japan has instructed its armed forces to shoot down any North Korean missile that heads toward its territory.

Contrary to comments from the White House Thursday, the Pentagon reported that “North Korea probably has nuclear weapons that can be mounted on ballistic missiles.” This is a very significant admission by the United States and a dangerous change to the Korean situation.

China has mobilized its military and is massing near the border with North Korea. This step was taken after North Korea placed a mid-range Musudan missile ready to launch on its east coast and its “dedication of more facilities at the Yongbon complex to nuclear weapons work.”

According to some sources in Washington, the Chinese military mobilization is not directed at deterring Pyongyang but as support for North Korea’s steps.
Late Thursday, Representative Doug Lamborn, a Colorado Republican, made a disquieting disclosure. He quoted an excerpt from a Defense Intelligence Agency report expressing “moderate confidence” in the finding that North Korea has nuclear weapons capable of delivery by ballistic missiles whose “reliability will be low.”

GDP money is not the states money, taxes and allocations which formulates the actual budget the state functions with and we are talking about 3-4 billion which is nothing. There are states in Nigeria with less than a quarter if lagos states population with the same budget like lagos state. They are way way richer than lagos state.

GDP is only a reflection of the economy and never what's you going inside the states pocket.

GDP is an indication of the size of an economy, which should also mean more revenue in taxes obtained by a state in such economy.

Lagos pays N14.48 billion to retirees

Wednesday, 13 February 2013 09:46 BusinessDay The Lagos State Government paid N14.486 billion to 2,604 retirees of the contributory pension scheme in two years, Rotimi Hussain, director-general Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC) has said.

Hussain, who disclosed this at the 3rd Pre-Retirement Seminar for Workers retiring from the state’s service from January and June, said the contributory pension scheme in the State, has continued to record huge success, adding that the amount was paid between October 2010 and December 2012.

He noted that the pre-retirement programme was designed to help the would-be retirees prepare for their physical, emotional and financial well-being in retirement.

He said with effective planning, retirees would be afforded the benefit of being in a better position and frame of mind to build a vibrant and rewarding life in retirement.

He said: “I am pleased to state that the contributory pension scheme in Lagos State has continued to record huge success. As we speak, 2,604 retirees who retired from the State public service under the scheme have been paid N14.486 billion between October 2010 and December 2012.

“This feat gives hope that with the contributory pension scheme, the future is absolutely bright for workers in the state.”

Hussain said the state is poised to provide comfortable live for its workers during retirement.

Executive Director Technical LASPEC, Folashade Onanuga, said the state is working hard to ensure that workers get their benefits a month after their retirement.

She urged workers to comply with the contributory pension scheme by observing all they are required to do, adding that the scheme has put the future of workers in their hands as the scheme is transparent and carries workers along in all the process involved.

I like the selective excuses going on here honestly grin, so Lagos state govt can be excused for some issues but the FG with bigger and more complex issues can't cough without being insulted. Funny country

A country that treats its elders bad is the same that treats its children like slaves.

The result of bad elders are bad children and the result of bad children are bad elders.A vicious circle never stops, except consciousness sets in.

Who is going to break the yoke?
Re: þ by Nightshift(m): 3:11pm On Apr 12, 2013
@eko ilee, apparently that sum of 14.48 billion was not released to those pensioners, hence their protest. On the other hand, it's also a moral question that those responsible should ask themselves.
