RIP to those great men!
I think it is time we give those alpha -jets away as gifts.
Those ogas at the top should hurry up and get these guys SU-30s.
What the fucck are they waiting for?
Why must they keep sacrificing the lives of scarce, competent and experienced members of the airforce on the alter of mediocrity.
It's sad indeed.

The plane didn't run out of fuel. Its suspected to have been shot down by BH. During the Baga offensive the security forces made some startling discovery that the BH animals were in possession of AA(anti aircraft) guns

What are you on about?

According to the press release, it crashed in Niger during Mali operations

RIP

anyone know their names?>

Why don't they ever release names/pictures of men that die on duty for this country?

manmustwac: So old they don't even have ejector seats

My friend, if you have nothing useful to say, just zip it. If ancient 1950 korean war jets had ejector seats, you think the 1970s/80s Dassault Alpha jet won't have (keep in mind that ours were upgraded just a few years ago)?
Re: Nigerian Military Jet Crashes In Niger Republic by naptu2: 11:35pm On May 06, 2013
We did not have Alpha jets during the civil war. We relied on MiG 17s etc during the civil war. The Alphas were bought in the late 1970s/early 1980s.

RIP to the airmen.

Yes the alpha jets are old, but it does not mean that they are not well maintained. If age determined how well military hardware should function then half the American naval and air force fleet would have been grounded or retired from service

It isn't about the maintenance - those aircraft are to old for combat and they're flying coffins...

Nigeria seriously needs to upgrade its fighter jets...

Same goes for the Chengdu jets as well... undecided

Re: Nigerian Military Jet Crashes In Niger Republic by nke001: 11:55pm On May 06, 2013
Why wouldnt a fighter jet be equipt with redundance in its core functionalities... faulty engine, faulty emergency eject system(dat should have saved the lifes of the pilots) all at dsame time?.
[strong]RIP galant soldiers[/strong] .

Sometimes, people display CRASS IGNORANCE on NL!!! The alpha jets were first built in 1971 and Nigeria is one of many countries which deploys this jet. The others are France, Cameroon(obviously as a former French colony), Portugal, the UK, Canada etc http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dassault/Dornier_Alpha_Jet

Many of you don't know that the civil war era jets which strafed and bombed our dear Igbo land were Ilyushin Russian fighter jets.

Let us learn to RESEARCH AND READ and not use the manageable Internet opportunity we have to spew garbage! Fighter jets crash every time especially the so called American modern jets. Mechanical failures are a recurring problem and should not automatically mean its a Nigerian exclusive factor.

But it's shameful we are still using Alpha jet at this age.
Re: Nigerian Military Jet Crashes In Niger Republic by KDULAR: 12:23am On May 07, 2013
Wht is so shameful about it yyou want the heavily sophisticated stuff which at the end of the day will become waste. You arm yourself according tp you perceived and real threats . What are our major immediate defence or military threats. Cameroun, Niger or Bennin republic. What are their capabilities .Do you a acquire pistol or rifle , when your immediate threat is a lizard ? firetrap:

Ejector seats were made an industry standard as early as the 60s so those jets do come with ejector seats. The jet in question was suspected to have been shot down by anti aircraft guns and not ground to air missiles. Anti aircraft artillery does not show up on radar like missiles do so dey may not have known that they were fire upon.

shut up my friend.
Anti-aircraft guns or surface to air missiles (SAMs) can be detected by radar.
Don't wanna go into long details but just know dat u made an ignorant post.
