The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Monday said it had commenced investigation into the killing of an unspecified number of police officers and security personnel in Alakyo village in Nasarawa State last week.

Reports from various sources have indicated that scores of security personnel were allegedly murdered by members of the Ombatse militia group.

Speaking while receiving a preliminary investigation report on the incident in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Bem Angwe, said the gruesome murder of security personnel who were carrying out their lawful duties was a violation of their right to life, an affront on the rule of law and a drawback to the efforts being made to contain the cycle of violence in the various parts of the country.

Angwe said the action of those who perpetrated these atrocities must be condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians and that all hands must be on deck to bring them to justice.

He said: “We are deeply concerned over the senseless killings by Ombatse cult members and many violent acts in other parts of the country.

“Investigations are already being conducted by the commission and I wish to assure the Inspector General of Police (IG) and all Nigerians that appropriate recommendations would be forwarded to the government at the end of the exercise.”

Angwe condoled with the IG and urged him not to be distracted by the incident.

Who killed 50 young men and dumped them into the Ezu river?
Why are the police officers responsible walking around free
Are the lives of those men less valuable ?

yes you have grievances which is well justified but i hope u are not implying that these policemen that died in active duty should be swept under the rug cos their colleagues allegedly did some evil in the past... common we are still human beings o.
