Ex-Minister Regrets Sending Children Abroad For Studies by Maxymilliano(m): 12:34am On May 20, 2013
A former Minister of Works, Adeseye Ogunlewe, at the weekend said he regrets sending his children to study abroad and advised wealthy Nigerians to desist from such.

Mr. Ogunlewe, who is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said he struggled to meet with the financial implications of that decision and realized it was not worthwhile.

The former minister, who is now the pro-chancellor of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, bared his frustration when the Alumni Association of the school visited in his Ogudu residence in Lagos.

Mr. Ogunlewe said he had to pay his children’s tuition “through the nose”. He said the monies spent on transportation alone on them were enough to complete their education back home.

The former minister said, the reduction of tuition fee in federal institution by Present Goodluck Jonathan is a welcome development and will be a relief to many parents and guardians.

He warned the country leaders and other well-to-dos in the country to desist from sending their wards abroad for academic benefits.

He told them what they wanted to hear. Follow this man's words at your own peril. I'm actually surprised that this man is still roaming free when he should have been locked up for killing Nigerians on roads he failed to fix during his tenure as works minister.

Why did he wait till he was appointed a pro-chancellor before making this revelation ? This is nothing but politics and you should blame yourself for your childrens' failure instead of trying to cover up with the cost implication crap.

No amount of money is too much to spend on education.if you think otherwise, try ignorance

This what he really meant to say;

Fellow Nigerian elites, as you can see, our education system is irrevocably comatose,

Please by all means send your kid's abroad at any chance that you get... it's definitely worth it!!!

Scum.

He should tell WHY he regrets.
Maybe his children turned out to become crack addicts and gay activists, with no respect for their elders.

This man is such a joker. After sending his first child abroad and realizing that it was expensive, why did he go ahead to send his other children? Why didn't he withdraw them and send them to federal or state universities? After allowing his children to enjoy the benefits of "good" education, he's discouraging other parents from doing the same for their children. Oniro jati jati, it shall not work for him.

This is how terrible our sense of value has become. Because Ogunlewe has become a Pro-chancellor, he thinks condemning what his children greatly benefited from will change anything, abi?
By the way, where are the grandchildren planning to study?

I think Oguunlewe truly regrets sending his kids abroad ...not because of the multi millions it cost him but cos his kids seem to have turned to junkies, riding expeensive whips and paatronizers of strip joints. These hubbies gulp money.

Otherwise, I wonder why some average Nigerian can afford to train his kids abroad while one of the most corrupt Aviation and works ministers found it hard to do same.
