Fayemi: Election Was Free And Fair, Too Late To Abort
SATURDAY, 25 MAY 2013 00:00 EDITOR NEWS - NATIONAL

GOVERNOR Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State said what happened was a misjudgment of the capacity of Governor Godswill Akpabio, whom some thought has the magic wand to do and undo. He said it is not true that the Forum resolved to rotate its chairmanship between the North and South as what obtains is a two-year tenure that is renewable ones, just as Bukola Saraki did four years.

He said: “our role in the opposition camp is very clear and consistent, that this is the Governors’ Forum and not the Forum of Governors for the President. We do not want the President to decide for us who is to be our chairman. You cannot talk about democracy without a strong alternative voice. We hope it will also be seen in the light that those who want their words to be law do not mean well for this democracy. What happened is not a vote for Amaechi, it is not an endorsement for him. But it is a vote for the Governors’ Forum and it should not be misconstrued as an affront to the President. We respect him and we want to work with him, but for us, there is a time for politics and a time for governance.”

Fayemi explained that though the Forum was used to selecting its chairman through a consensus arrangement, this time around the Forum was polarised and the only way to resolve it was through an election.

He explained that 35 governors were in attendance, with the exception of Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam and the voting was free and fair, even though somebody tried to snatch the ballot. According to him, the baby was delivered alive and it is no longer possible to abort it.

Top,top drawer intelligence. His status as a dogged advocate of democracy is known, celebrated and rewarded beyond Nigeria. Fayemi is indeed right to insist that GEJ, however parochial his ambition, has no business trying to foist his candidate on the governors themselves. The truly intelligent Governors will realise the danger of letting this happen.

I agree with Fayemi.

The NGF shouldn't be converted to a lapdog of Mr. President. Sadly, the likes of Akabio will want to make it so.

cool cool

Men i like this guy, he speaks like Fashola. They both remind me of great world leaders. Thanks to Tinubu for discovering these intelligent guys for us in the SW. Other states may keep selecting nonentities and misfits as leaders. It's their frigging business.

PDP presidential primaries for the forthcoming elections will be a tough one.The president as it is must be totally confused. the emergence of Chibuike Amaechi as the chairman of Governors forum is a clear indication that all may not be well for PDP unless Amaechi decides to leave the party which i know he might never. I urge the opposition to use this opportunity to reinforce and make their party stronger.

yes o!
There is time for everything. But since the swearing in of our president in 2010 as the acting president, all he has been concerned with has been future elections. Nothing about governance.

Its so irritating hearing that the retardeen has a candidate for the governors forum chairmanship.
why the interference?
Fayemi obviously spoke well here.

We can all remember that the first bill GEJ chased maniacally ,among the many urgent ones pending, was a new 7 year single tenure term for the President. That, as one example out of many, should have revealed to astute and balanced observers what GEJ is. A clueless guy obsessed with power for the sake of it alone and not because he has any coherent plan for using it to improve the lives of Nigerians. Till today, he has had nil impact on the major headaches of Nigeria and even worsened some of them. Yet, as you say, all he has been concerned with is his own sit-tight election agenda.

What has GEJ done that you are not with him? Is GEJ a fellow governor. Did GEJ conduct or contest any election?

For your information, that NGF election was not conclusive. The 19 pro - Jang governors got angry midway and left Rivers state lodge, venue of the meeting for Akwa Ibom lodge leaving behind only 16 pro Amaechi supporters because Amaechi refused to step down nor accept Jang as concensus chairman. They arranged with the DG after others have left to announce their result. They are talking about video, why don't they show it to Nigerians. The so - called 19 against 16 votes was concocted after others have left the venue. Let Amaechi convene a meeting of his 19 governors and let the whole world see. The 19 pro - Jang governors are meeting and talking tough. Why is the Amaechi camp quite? Their conscience is judging them.

What do you mean by the bold? Did Jonathan become president to those that voted for him and Buhari president for the ones that voted for him?

So you think by arm-twisting and extracting signature/endorsements from these 19 Governors - Jonathan can now foist his lapdog on the NGF?

What is so hard for fayemi and amechi to call for their own meeting like jang did!! If they are not cowards they should call for their own meeting let the 19 state governors that voted for amechi come and stand behind him and speak with the media ,just like jonah jang did with the 18 governors that walked out of the election. is that to hard for amechi and fayemi to do?

karl max, how do you engage a thug? Step into the mud with him? Did you not hear they wanted to snatch the ballot too?

The governors in Jang's camp are being arm-twisted. They no longer have the will of their own. If they don't fall in line, here is what Abuja (Under Presido) will do to them:
1. If they are in the North, SoE will be expanded to them. The can only collect their own salary.
2. If located in the South, the current PDP officials will be sacked and Abuja will plant men who will be receiving orders directly from Abuja.

Certainly, by now they all have been fully presented with all the PDP's torture apparatus available for deployment. As you know, PDP will provide them with custom edition (what is specifically applicable to your state).

u people are very funny. the same clueless And weak jonathan like you people call him would arm twist grown men, I never knew that governors are so scared of him that 18 of them walked out while election was going on and held a media Conference to endose jang as their chairman why is amechi not making so much noise .the amechi I know would have held a press conference Just like when his plane was grounded and the so called opposition that voted
him would have stood behind him and endosed him just like jang did the same day of the election?. may be fayemi thinks NGF election is like AC.N primaries where they are hand picked by tinubu and claim the primaries are free and fair.48hrs after the so called election no one has heard from him or his aid.fayemi and can are now his spoke men I guess his still leaking his bruised ego.

This is one of the most filthy and disgusting thing I have seen in my entire life. This drunkard called Goodluck Jonathan has no shame whatsoever. He is a thief, incompetent, corrupt and many more terrible things can easily be associated with him.
