The official story was that there were death threats to his life.

Anyway, I see Nigeria winning tomorrow; but the Malawi v Kenya game is a toss-up.

In Quito, Ecuador; it's Ecuador 0-1 Argentina. Sergio Aguero scored a 4th minute penalty. As it stands, Argentina will book their place in next year's world cup.

Match preview.

Nambia’s Brave Warriors go into Wednesday’s match hoping to do the almost impossible - beat the Super Eagles who have not lost in their last 16 games. This task was must more difficult for the Namibians after they lost their coach of six weeks due to a rumoured death threat.

The Warriors got a morale boosting draw away to Malawi last Wednesday and will be hoping to build on that point with all three points against the African champions.

On the part of the Eagles, expect the same players with the exception of Sunday Mba to start against Namibia. John Ogu should replace the Rangers midfielder, who had a below par performance against Kenya.

Last time out in Calabar, the Eagles had to wait till the 80th minute to get the winner and last Wednesday in Nairobi, it took all of 80 minutes for Ahmed Musa to nudge the Eagles in front. Also against Kenya in April, the Eagles took 93 minutes to get the equalizer against the Harambee Stars.

So the game should be tight and if there is no goal after 75 minutes, be patient, the Eagles are now in the habit of scoring late goals.

The Namibians are still without the injured Rudolf Bester, Henrico Botes, Heinrich Isaacks and Ronald Ketjijere, but Oliver Risser has resumed training and is in contention for a starting berth while there are no injury worries for the Super Eagles.

Coach Stephen Keshi is expected to send out his team in his favoured 4-3-3 formation while the Warriors should begin in a 4-4-2 formation with the two upfront expected to join in the midfield battle and crowd out their Nigerian opponents.

The eagles can focus on the match as the Nigeria Football Federation has dispelled the reports in the media that there was a crisis in terms of bonuses in the Super Eagles after it was alleged that the Nigerian players kicked against their reduced bonus after the victory against the Harambee Stars of Kenya in the 2014 World Cup qualifier played last Wednesday at the Kasarani Stadium, Nairobi.

“There is no bonus crisis in the Super Eagles camp. If you say there is a bonus crisis in the Super Eagles camp, I want anybody that says that to quote the player or the coach that has said that. So there is no bonus crisis in the team,” secretary general Musa Amadu said.

“What they are entitled to as bonus has been paid. Let me say something here and that is where you guys (sports reporters) also need to help the Nigeria Football Federation. If we have the funds to pay bonuses more than what we are paying the Super Eagles now, we will pay them,” he said.

He also voiced out that there is no way they can pay more than what the NFF is paying the players now because of the lean purse of the federation.

All the best to the super eagles of Nigeria.

Mikel defy Chelsea doctor’s orders
John Mikel Obi is set to defy Chelsea doctor’s orders and feature for the Super Eagles against Namibia on Wednesday, in a game that will be played on artificial pitch. We all complain about the player been loyal to their club more than the countries, now Mikel is showing patriotism.

The midfielder has suffered a recurring back injury and was recently nursing a hip injury. This led to the club doctors insisting that he does not play on the hard surface of an artificial pitch. We can only hope this does not affect his career, cos this is a risk that could backfire. The Nigerian FA have abandoned players in the past not Mikel has suddenly become broke to send as SOS call to them, but the young man has a future to consider.

The way to go Mikel, patriotism a few international players have shown.

However, Obi has shunned those instructions and is ready to do battle against the Brave Warriors, as Nigeria seeks to qualify for next year’s World Cup in Brazil. The player, who has been linked with a move to Galatasaray, trained on Monday, even as coach Stephen Keshi stated that he did not expect his players to struggle on the astro turf of the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

“I don’t expect us to have any problems with the pitch. We have trained on astro turf and just decided to use grass today (Monday). Tomorrow (Tuesday) we will train at the match ground again,” he said.

The temperature in Windhoek, was as low as 6 degrees on Monday, as the Eagles were put through their paces.

I hope this gesture doesn't backfire.
