Mid-term Report's A Compendium Of Errors, yet Gej Signed On Pages With Errors!! by onomeasike: 12:00am On Jun 04, 2013
[b]Mid-term report, a compendium of errors!

President Goodluck Jonathan marked the second year of his administration on Wednesday. He used the opportunity of the day that has come to be known as Democracy Day in Nigeria to present his mid-term report to Nigerians at an elaborate event held under tight security at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

His two-year achievements were listed in a 234-page glossy book tagged, ‘The mid-term report of the transformation agenda (2011-2013)’. The book was formally presented by Jonathan before past Nigerian leaders, top government officials and friends of the country among others. Copies were distributed to all those in attendance.

The embarrassing thing about this document is that it is riddled with errors, mostly typographical. One expected that those who produced such an important national document would have been thorough in their work. They did not do this and it is rubbing off on the President of the most populous black nation who appended his signature on the book.

The most irritating of the errors is the title of the piece on the first and second pages of the book signed by the President. The title of the piece reads, ‘Forward’ instead of ‘Foreword’. Foreword is defined as a short introductory essay preceding the text of a book. More hit in this harvest of errors is the second book called ‘Executive summary of Part 1 of the mid-term report of the transformation agenda (2011-2013)’. Proofreaders cannot be said to have touched this 58-page document at all. The document is full of punctuation and typographical errors! Yours sincerely who scanned through the document for the purpose of extracting news items was confronted with unpardonable errors that are not expected inside such a national document. For instance, the sub-headline on page 13 reads ‘electoral progress’ instead of ‘electoral process’. On the second line, ‘meaningful’ was written as ‘eaningful’. The first word on line 3 reads ‘he’ instead of ‘the’.

Page 14 of that document is an eyesore. A critical look at the sub-headline, Outcome, revealed many errors. In line 4, ‘giving rise to’ was presented as ‘giving rise o’ and ‘outcomes’ was spelt as ‘out comes’. In line 8, ‘are now more’ came out meaninglessly as ‘re ow ore’. On page 15, ‘policy’ was spelt as ‘polcy’ in line 5 of the first paragraph.

The sub-headline, Corruption, on pages 20 and 21 is also corrupted with errors. In paragraph 3, ‘and’ reads as ‘n’. In paragraph 4, ‘the’ appeared as ‘he’ and ‘to’ appeared as ‘o’. In paragraph 9, ‘increasing’ was spelt as ‘ncreasing’ and ‘meant to’ came out as ‘eant o’.

On page 23, ‘south south’ appeared as ‘outh outh’ and ‘Promptly’ as ‘romptly’, among many other such errors. Though these two documents are meant to showcase the achievements of the current administration, the way they were produced would make one hide them from children, so they don’t pick wrong words from the books. The producers will do the nation a lot of good if they can quickly recall the copies in circulation (which may be impossible) and produce cleaner copies.

The Punch doing her master bidding as usual. It is obvious that there is no arguing the content and substance of GEJ's bold claims of achievements and they are clawing to typographical errors which are essentially to the publishers disadvantage, that is after 6 days of laborious fault searching and fact checking.

I await the day Punch will publish clear rebuttal of the claims published in that book, sector by sector. That is what fact finders do after such claims in matured democracies.

And for the kids who believe that insulting the President from today till tomorrow really changes anything fundamentally, you are on a long arduous journey which promises to last for the next 6 years. If I were you, i will save my bitterness and vile for when they are needed most - that is when you principals lose the 2015 elections.

Another unfortunate display of crassitude from the opposition's camp! Jonathan's good works is clearly irrefutable before their prying, sneaky eyes and out of shame and total embarrassment, they resort to typographical errors! What a pity undecided

How about the substance of the documentation beyond typographically errors? While your observations may be right , it is myopic to focus on such frivolity than what the document was trying to communicate. Punch na where dem go see una b dis. Jagaban engineered. Yet dem children no fit pass law school and they claim to be intellectuals leading Yoruba people.

Such degree of typographical errors is unacceptable. I heard the document was produced locally as part of govt deliberate policy to empower local businesses. It is also possible the document was hurriedly put together to beat May 29 date, which may have contributed to the typographical errors.

Nonetheless, this article by Punch is needless. Punch is merely making a mountain out of a mole hill. Punch should rather dissect the content of the report rather than dissipate energy on typographical errors.

Least we forget, this is the FIRST TIME in the history of Nigeria that an elected govt is producing a mid-term report. It is like a son who is confident of what he's been able to achieve and takes his score card to his father. That alone should be commended by all.

why must you openly support a monumental disgrace? in a country that has produced top authors and editors around the world, yet such a public document is replete with such enormous amount of obvious typographical errors. what does this say about the govt of the day

I doesn't say anything about the govt of the day. Yes, mistakes were made in the document. But have you also considered the fact that NO GOVT in the history of Nigeria has ever presented to Nigerians a mid-term report? The problem now is that there are typographical errors but it has NEVER been done before. Remember that govt is a huge bureaucracy and such mistakes are not uncommon.

How does typographical errors vitiate the WORK DONE in Benin-Ore road, the Lagos-Kano rail line, the Abuja light rail, the Loko Oweto Bridge, the YOUWIN programme, Oshodi-Apapa road, Onitsha- Owerri road, etc? Does typographical errors vitiate all the PICTURES in the document?

The level of mediocrity is more threatening than people think and shouldn't be tolerated especially now that is affecting even government media. Its as if there is a visible retrogression

I'm not too young to remember Patrick Oke and his peers then on NTA. His grammar and diction was always flawless. I watched a presenter on NTA this morning who couldn't pronounce Perpetuity Could u believe that poo.

Such degree of error in such an important document is quite uncommon and as such, the editor of the book should be questioned. But then,i hope the Punchng columnist wrote this article to add to govt effort and not to villify Mr President's determination to transforming nigeria.

I opened this tread expecting to see facts contradicting Lucky's report.
It is really ekwembestic that up till now nobody in all the whooooole one Nigeria has been able to contradict the substance of that report even when a gauntlet was dropped.
Certain pursuits are the exclusive preserve of shallow minds.

At least Jonathan is not a bastard... It is claimed that prominent yoruba leaders are all bastards bearing another family name. Tinubu is not a Lagosian or a legitimate son of Tinubu and Obj is alleaged to be a bastard son of an igbo chief. Bastards everywhere.. Punch doing the bidding of bastards.
