Young fellow,u can't expect to be trained as a technician n wanto end up answering an engineer,u should know better. In the field of engineering, we have the engineers, the technicians, the technologist, the craftmen, and the artisans. So u can't be trained to be a crafts man or technologist n come out tomorrow n wanto rub shoulders with an engineering degree holder; I don't think its done anywhere in the world(u can quote me on that)
Moreover before applying to go to a polytechnic, I think u should have been aware of th degree u would be given at th end of ur program, so please let's stop all these sentimental bullshit n play our roles according to our academic background. Or tomorrow u should not be surprised when a brick layer comes out n start making noise tht he can build houses while a civil engr. cannot do so, so therefore they should be allowed to answer th tile of an engr. Meringe: Long overdue, am not a graduate of Poly but I think the discrimination meted on Poly graduates and people working with these higher institution is unfair.
It takes average of 5years to graduate from poly why varsity isa four years normal why the difference?

The discrimination between both is just too much, especially @ places of work, even in federal civil service, there is a level you can attain, wen you're a poly graduate on like their university counter-parts, and they're meant to be more practically inclined, because of the respect given to a university certficate will not allow employers to see the light of the day.

With all due respect I don't think this lil argument should lead to insults,I just gave my take on th matter..n as fo ur question, yeah I went to school. FYI poly deg holders are trained to be technologist or technicians as th case may be so why rub shoulders with engr deg holders. If u feel inferior u can go fo pgd n convert ur title to an engr.

There is DEGREE programme in Engineering Technology in the US, and no discrimination attached to the certificate, even in remuneration and career progression. They are technologists just like the nigerian polytechnic HND Engineering Technology graduates. Use ur Google.

Nigeria places too much emphasis on degree and not acquiring of specific knowledge. because of emphasis placed on degree, u have student that's pass thru the university but the university doesn't pass thru them.. This is why a student would do everything to get that degree. Sleep with lecturers, carry expo into exam halls. This syndrome has helped nigeria in producing "Illiterate Graduate", even at that, when u graduate, where are the Jobs?

Nigerians don't yet know the enormity of the plague that has eaten deep into the fabric of this Nation.

Is it not in this country that Salisu Buhari forged certificate of University of Toronto Canada. If such a highly placed Nigerian can forge University degree to enter the Senate of the Federal republic, then u'l know our problem is not Strike, or HND not measuring up to B.Sc. If you look, in this country, there are plenty Forged NYSC discharge certificate, so many forged University degree like the Toronto university, so many forged Poly HND and OND result just to tender to a govt agency to be on the payroll.
We must adress this challenge of our identity as Nigerians.
A corrupt system driven by corruption, that's the truth about Nigeria.
Drastic situations requires drastic measures.. We have to take a drastic step to adress our Destiny collectively as one Nigeria.

ishmael: Polytechnic students should not just wish for the strike to end for them to go back to school; they should pray foremostly for government to meet the demands of the striking lecturers, especially removing the discrimination against polytechnic HND holders, who in recent times have been relegated to the level of NCE as against being at par with University Degree holders; even when the polytechnic is known to have a better curriculum than the university. The injustice is too obvious and too much. Let government also establish a national polytechnics commission to monitor and regulate academic activities in polytechnics as against been lumped up together with technical/vocational colleges under the NBTE. May God help the polytechnic lecturers and government to reach a positive conclusion.
Which curriculum are u talking about? It is high we all woke up from our sleep. Whether polytechnics or universities the curriculum is a sham. Our education sector needs revival and less importance should be placed on paper qualifications.

Laughs.... My sister don't take it personal, speaking on your comment; I think its not the function of an engineer to wire a building,an engineers function is to draw the wiring diagram( design the wiring plan) while the technician does the actual wiring; so don't be surprised if the managing director of PHCN cannot wire his house(laughs).
