The flag off ceremony for the reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which held at the Sagamu Inter-change yesterday, was literarily turned to a political arena. Hundreds of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members led by erstwhile governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel drummed support for the second term of President Goodluck Jonathan during the ceremony.

Jonathan accompanied by the host governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun was so thrilled that he danced and waved to the cheering crowd with their Yoruba song, “E je ki o pa da wa o(which literarily means ‘let him come back for the second term’).

The second term bid was also echoed by drummers and members of the embattled PDP in the state who also joined in the praise singing. To the delight of PDP members and others, the elated president acknowledged the cheering crowd as he joined them in the call to service song.

The six-lane first section of the road, which has 44.3 kilometres and terminates at Shagamu interchange is to be handled by Julius Berger, while the second leg, a four-lane 88 kilometres will be handled by RCC and will terminate at Ibadan round about at Iwo Road. During the ceremony, Jonathan lamented the deplorable condition of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway recalling that the poor condition of the road had led to the loss of many Nigerians as well as result in poor economic development in the Southwest and in the country.

In order to bring a new lease of life to the people in the southwest and other road users, Jonathan said his administration was committed to the timely completion of the project.

He spoke just as the Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun canvassed a sustainable maintenance arrangement to ensure that the N167 billion to be expended on the project would not amount to a waste. The governor attributed the deplorable conditions of many infrastructural facilities across the country to “careless and bad maintenance culture of Nigerians’’.

His words: “This sum of N167 billion to be committed to this project is such a huge amount that we can not allow to be wasted due to carelessness and non-challant attitude.’

’According to Amosun, the reconstruction of the 35-year old road, which was long over due had hindered economic growth in Ogun as well as added to death toll in the state. Jonathan said the federal government re-awarded the project to Julius Berger Construction and Raynod Construction Company due to non-performance by the initial concessioner, Bi-Courtney Highway Services. The president said the inability of Bi-Courtney to handle the project as expected had resulted in security breaches, recurring fatal accidents as well as continued public out cry by motorists.

He said the ceremony was a determination of his administration to bequeath strong and comprehensive infrastructural development that would fast-track socio economic development to the country as well as reduce the carnage on the road. The president noted that 50 percent of the economic transaction in the country is done between Lagos – Ogun axis through the 35 years old road.

He also promised that the federal government would intervene in the rehabilitation of other federal roads that stretched across Ogun State as requested by Amosun The president also commended the efforts of the Governor Amosun in rebuilding the state, describing him as an “industrious and hardworking person”.

Such moves are allowed in politics; particularly for self-centred politicians.

Just like Peter Odili supports GEJ; naturally "discarded politicians" who want to remain relevant use crisis situations and boot-licking strategies as a means of getting back into the mainstream.

The only politician with membership of three political parties in Nigera.

PDP
PPN
LP

These are not the type of politicians that will guarantee GEJ an inward road in the South west....

After they have finished turning the supposed flag-off ceremony for road construction to political campaign for 2015. they should remind the fisherman president that all youths are angry with him over ASUU strike:

The Association of Northern Youths for the
Advancement of Peace Harmony &
Development, ANYPAD, has called on President
Goodluck Jonathan to resolve the lingering crisis
between Academic Staff Union of Universities ,
ASUU, and the Ministry of Education or face
protest by youth from the region.
A statement by the association’s national
president, Melvin Ejeh, on Friday said Nigerian
university lecturers deserved better treatment
from the federal government.
“Our lecturers and the entire university
community deserve a better condition of service
if we must grow as a nation. We therefore call
on President Goodluck Jonathan to sack the two
ministers forthwith and employ all means within
his disposal and resolve this once and for all,”
the statement said.
The statement faulted the Minister of Education
on her inability to resolve ASUU issues amicably
and asked that she resign to make way for a
more competent person.
“We ask the Minister of Education, Rukayat Rufai
and Minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka
Wogu to resign their appointments forthwith or
face mass street protest from the youths,” the
statement said, adding, “This is a complete show
of incompetence and lack of respect for the
future of Nigeria students.”
The group noted that most of the people
creating “artificial problems” in the educational
sub-sector, in their time, passed through the
education system with ease.
“We are aware that most of these selfish public
officers today enjoyed free education and even
got automatic employments. We wonder why
they remain adamant to ASUU and students
plights since 2009. Our parents are always
running form pillars to poles to pay schools fees
in spite of the economic hardship in the country
while some persons are sitting in the comfort of
their office inflicting more pains on parents,
guardian and students,” they said.
Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian
Students, NANS, has appealed to the Federal
Government and ASUU to resolve their
differences as soon as possible to allow the
return of academic activities to Nigerian
Universities.
The NANS Vice President, National Affairs,
Ahamed Jibril, on Thursday made the appeal in
a press release to journalists, revealing that the
strike has crumbled academic activities in the
Universities.
“We, the leadership of NANS, are calling on the
Federal Government particularly the Minister of
Education, NUC (Nigerian University Council),
ASUU and all parties involved in the ASUU issues
to kindly tackle the issues that have warranted
the ongoing ASUU strike as we the students are
at the receiving end,” he said.
According to the student body, continuous strike
by lecturers in Nigeria has severally disrupted
the academic calendar thereby delaying the
graduation of students from various institutions
and preventing the Nigerian student from
contributing effectively to the economy.
The university lecturers commenced an
indefinite strike action on Monday based on the
Federal Government’s failure to implement
some of the issues contained in a 2009
agreement with the association. The union also
accused the government of reneging on a
Memorandum of
Understanding [MoU] jointly agreed on in
December 2011.
On the constant fracas on campuses that lead to
the death of students, NANS called on its
senators (all SUG presidents) to dialogue and
apply other peaceful measures to curb the
increasing rate of crisis on campuses.
“Demonstrations are not always the best option
of addressing student issues; it is to the best of
interest of the students to employ peaceful
negotiations because it’s our campuses and
academic works that are always hampered each
time such incidents occur,” the NANS president
said.
The student union leader also appealed to the
management of Nigerian institutions to be more
diplomatic in dealing with student issues.
The association also commended the Federal
government for the merger of EFCC and ICPC,
and urged the merging bodies to work
effectively to reduce corruption in the country,
especially within the education sector.

This confirms to the whole world that PDP and this government are deep in corruption. Imagine the Alameseigha of Ogun state championing the campaign for re-election of GEJ. This is a man who is wanted by the EFCC,a man who turned the state upside down until he lost popularity,a man that can never deliver his ward in any election. As for the hungry praise singers, posterity will judge all of them. Come 2015 PDP will be relegated to the dust bin by Nigerians, we are tired of their lies, corruption, lack of ideas and initiative, instability, rigging and all their vices. Nigerians need serious-minded leaders not laggards!

Nigerian Youths wake up, We have no other
country except Nigeria, We have been suffering
in silence while our Leaders put our future in
their bank accounts. How can we remain like
this? How can a youth go to school and suffered
to graduate at the end no job. You are almost 40
and still your future is as bleak as a dark room.
Did your parents send you to school to sit at
home because our Government have failed us.
Let us come out one day and say No. We must
not remain like this, we cannot all travel abroad to
find a better life, our better life is here in our
country. We have the money, oil and resources
but only a selected few have continue to suck it
dry why we keep believing God for a change,
wake up now I challenge you. We need 500,000
youths in each of the 36states to challenge the
Government. We say NO, we need rebuild this
nation, we will vacate those who stand on our
way as they are considered the enemy. A man
cannot have billions of naira while millions of
youths roam the streets every day looking for
daily bread. Our young men must not all be
kidnappers, our young girls must not all be
prostitutes. Get Ready I tell you. The time has
come for us to react, the only way our
Government listens is violence, they have shown
it to the Niger delta militants and now they are
planning to show it to the boko haram..whereas a
simple gesture of N20,000 per month to the
unemployed was rejected and you pay militants
N75,000 per month. How much do they pay as
minimum wage? How much do they pay to
elected officers, we are going to revolt. Nigeria
will burn to be rebuilt again like Libya, Iraq,
Egypt and Tunisia...please spread this message
unless you want to die in poverty in a country
where God has destined all of us to be happy and
prosperous...!!!pls join the group on facebook
tagged "nigerian youths movement for
revolution" Pls send this msg to all ur forum,
groups on facebook, 2go, whatsapp, twitter, and

The time is right for us all to say no bad
