PDP lambasts CPC for distancing Buhari from Odumakin •Borno bishop warns him against reckless statement

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the attempt by the Congress For Progressives Change (CPC) to distance itself and its national leader, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, from the statement purported made on Buhari’s behalf by Mr Yinka Odumakin, where he claimed that governors elected under Action congress of Nigeria (ACN) are corrupt.

The ruling party said in a statement signed by its acting National Publicity Secretary, Mr Tony Okeke, in Abuja, on Thursday that the CPC’s action is “another clear example that the opposition in the country is a “whitewashed tomb.”
According to PDP, “This damming verdict did not come from our great party neither did it emanate from one of the fractious, ever disagreeing opposition outside the merger camp. It came from the heart of the merger itself.

“Yinka Odumakin, General Buhari’s spokesman only bowed to the humanity in him, underwent purgation while succumbing to a self righting catharsis.

It is a pity that the top rank of his party, threatened by this heavy revelation, is making futile efforts to discredit the truth in its sacredness.”

Wondering why the CPC did not join hands with “its cohorts in the ACN to tackle and disprove the allegation of corruption hauled at its face by one of its own,” the statement argued that the PDP is not surprised that the CPC would attempt to deny and distance itself from the spokesman of its leader.

“The ACN, CPC, their major and minor allies in the APC have again shown that they are whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but in the inside are full of the unclean,” it stated.

The statement said: “Where is the falsehood in Yinka comparing the N1billion per kilometer of road by the ACN governors under the express directive of Bola Tinubu and the N50 million per the same kilometer of road under former governor Alao Akala, in Oyo State for which Yinka dragged the former Oyo governor to the EFCC?

“Where again is the lie in the fact that the ACN practises clique tyranny with the wife of its leader a Senator; son-in-law, a member of the House of Representatives; daughter-in-law in the Lagos State House of Assembly and daughter, the President-General of the Association of Nigerian Market Women and Men imposed by her father?

Meanwhile, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Maiduguri, Bishop Emmanuel Mani has called on General Muhammadu Buhari to watch what he voices out to the public.

The Anglican Bishop in a statement, made available to Nigerian Tribune, on Thursday in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital said the signal that some politicians are passing across is not good for the polity. He added that some politicians even talk recklessly, issuing threats.

Bishop Mani recalled that before the last presidential election, General Buhari told all Nigerians that after the 2011 elections, he would not vie for any election again.

“I also heard General Buhari when responding to a question on whether or not he would contest the 2015 general election and he said that the decision is not his, but that of his own party, which to me is a contradiction and unlike of a stateman.

“Buhari would do himself a favour by retiring from active politics and joining the highly revered league of former Nigerian leaders, such as General Yakubu Gowon, General Ibrahim Babangida, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, Chief Ernest Shonekan, General Olusegun Obasanjo and General Abdulsalami Abubakar, who stood tall and remained highly respected Nigerians”. He said.

He added that these leaders preached non-violence and peaceful co-existence, and as such urged General Buhari to join the enviable league and safe Nigeria from political tension.

“Let those who had the opportunity of leading this country either as president or governors or any other political office at any level remember that Nigeria is blessed with capable men and women across the six geo-political zones who can even do better if given the opportunity as no Nigerian is indispensable.

It should be a sacred duty of former leaders to raise, mentor and nurture younger leaders as Nigeria is not in shortage of manpower, or talented charismatic youngmen and women who can deliver dividends of democracy efficiently and effectively”. The bishop said.
