I was in utter amazement when I heard that a certain Senator representing Ondo Senatorial District, Hon. Ayo Akinyelure , has apologized as concerning his vote for the legalization of child marriage, saying he voted in error.

Voted in error? Like seriously?

And later he denied ever in his recent press conference that he never even voted for "under age" marriage. Is this Senator Confused?
The question to ask is; was he cajoled, forced, bribed or pressurized to cast his vote or was he blind an deaf to media reports of girls suffering due to early marriage in the past? Or rather, was it just sheer silliness on his part that made him cast a vote for the retention of a clause that even a secondary school student in Nigeria, if not a primary school pupil, knows is morally wrong?

What was he thinking and what could have been his motivation?

Is he planning to also "ship-in" an Indian girl to compete with his counterpart and enstranged senator, Ahmed Yerima, or is he beginning to eye some small girls in his neighbourhood already? What gains did he think would accrue to the Nigerian society in general and did he think that posterity would forgive him if that clause stands? Did he consider the blood of innocent Nigerian girls who have been sacrificed on the altar of such lust and irrational behaviour?

Yerima will tell you; "consummation of the marriage will take place only on the consent of the girl involved" but something in our heads keep screaming...."na lie!"...if this is the kind of big grammar they are blowing for the girls, I should suppose they won't even understand what consummation means, not to talk of standing up for their sexual rights in the marriage when they are being abused. Does anybody even take those girls through sexual education? Do they have proper orientation about the act of sex? What body has been put to place for them to run to when they are raped in their own marriage? Or is it still the same parents that impatiently sold them out cheaply that they are expected to turn to? If they are ever able to ever summon such courage, you can expect that they will simply be driven back to their prisons.

And he says he is sorry? He must have thought he was in the National Assembly just to shout "naaaaay"and "yeeeeees". Even this apology after a peaceful protest in Akure is suspicious. Would he have come out to apologize to Nigerians if their names were not published? ...And is he contesting for any position in 2015? Answer these two questions and for the sake of hidden agendas and correcting "bad reputation", you'd realize that your guess is as good as mine!
