Logically, YES!

When we pray, who do we pray to? God!

It is God who decides d fate of a dead; where the final resting place of d soul will be - hell or heaven.

When we pray on a dead person's behalf, we are actually appealing to God to ve mercy on that soul and allow it into heaven. The onus lies on God to heed to our prayers or not.

CLEARLY WE ARE NOT PRAYING TO THE DEAD AS SOME PEEPS ARE SUGGESTING HERE.

Prayers don't work for the living let alone the dead.Smh
Re: Does Praying For The Dead Really Work? by Kaycee7(m): 12:24pm On Jul 28, 2013
I don't know if other denominations do it but catholics believe in purgatory. A place where just souls with some stains of sin go to be purified before going to heaven. So we pray for those souls in purgatory.
Bottomline: Nobody but GOD knows where the soul will go after death so we pray to GOD for the souls of the dead that HE may accept them into HIS Kingdom.

Every individual has a grip over his or her opinion. But in christiandom after death is judgement, so u better pray 4 The person to get saved before death comes calling. In yoruba it says "adura o ba oku ise owo re nto lehin" prayer doesn't work for the dead his deeds follows him.

Immatex: What is baptism for the dead?
In writing about the heavenly resurrection, the apostle Paul penned a most intriguing passage. In the King James Version, we read: “Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?” And The New Jerusalem Bible renders this passage: “What are people up to who have themselves baptised on behalf of the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, what is the point of being baptised on their behalf?”—1 Corinthians 15:29.
Was Paul here suggesting that living people be baptized on behalf of those who died in an unbaptized state? So it might seem from these and some other Bible translations. However, a closer examination of both the Scriptures and the original Greek used by Paul suggests another conclusion. Paul meant that anointed Christians are baptized, or immersed, into a course of life that will lead to a death of integrity like that of Christ. Afterward, they would be raised to spirit life as he was.
The Scriptures support this explanation. In his letter to the Romans, Paul wrote: “Do you not know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?” (Romans 6:3) In his letter to the Philippians, Paul spoke of himself, saying: “Sharing in [Christ’s] sufferings, submitting myself to a death like his, to see if I may by any means attain to the earlier resurrection from the dead.” (Philippians 3:10, 11) Paul was pointing out that the life of an anointed follower of Christ involves a course of integrity-keeping under test, a daily facing of death, and finally a death of integrity, followed by the heavenly resurrection.
It is noteworthy that these and other scriptures that directly mention death in connection with baptized ones refer to living individuals who had been baptized and not to those who had died. Paul also told fellow anointed Christians: “You were buried with him in his baptism, and by relationship with him you were also raised up together through your faith in the operation of God, who raised him up from the dead.”—Colossians 2:12.
The Greek preposition hy·per′, translated “for” or “on behalf of” in various Bible versions at 1 Corinthians 15:29, can also mean “for the purpose of.” In harmony with other Bible texts, the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures therefore correctly renders this verse: “What will they do who are being baptized for the purpose of being dead ones? If the dead are not to be raised up at all, why are they also being baptized for the purpose of being such?”
Excellent!
I wanted to reply the dude that quoted that scripture, but then i saw your beautiful rendition.
Just like Rom. 6vs3-11 rightly said, we were buried with him by baptism, and will also be like him in resurrection.
And YES! Praying for the dead works only for ONE purpose - To raise the dead! Any other prayer for the dead outside this is mere venting of religious emotion.

Praying for the dead is a mere wish. Wishing the dead RIP is hypocrisy (I don't before my understanding was enlightened). Why? It will never change the cause of that dead person in the great beyond.
Therefore, let's stop wasting our time for nothing, and ensure that you make peace with God before your death. Thank you.

If prayers doesn't work for the dead, why is it that the dead can still come back to life after prayers for such a person on earth. Like Jesus did and Apostle Babalola did?

chukwudi44: Yes it works for those who died in sin that does not lead to spiritual death.1john 5:17.

Read up 1 cor 15:29 to see that the apostles even baptised people on behalf of those who are dead.

"If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should make request for this. 17 All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death," (1 John 5:16-17).

The meaning of verses 16 and 17 is debated among Christians. There is no absolute consensus on what this means. But, generally speaking, we conclude that there sins that people can commit which God takes seriously enough so as to end their lives. An example of this is of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:1-10 who lied to the Holy Spirit. God judged them for this and both were killed.

Another sin that is associated with death is found in 1 Corinthians 5:1-5 where it is reported that a man was having sexual relations with his father's wife.

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is another sin certainly worthy of death. God gives those who commit the sin over to the depravity of their hearts and minds and they are beyond redemption. Some believe that blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is a sin that leads to death. At the very least, it ensures damnation.

They( una no unaselves) have usurped this verse 1 cor 15:29 and taken it out of context.

Paul used this example from the pagans in 1 Cor. 15:29, when he said, "...if the dead are not raised, then why are they baptized for the dead?" Paul did not say we.

This is significant because the Christian church was not practicing baptism for the dead, but the pagans were.

brossie how you take conclude for you own? na wa for these heresies oooo

Peterjosh: If prayers doesn't work for the dead, why is it that the dead can still come back to life after prayers for such a person on earth. Like Jesus did and Apostle Babalola did?

Through whose prayers was Jesus brought back to life? Is apostle Babablola living a second life? U know what? Just chill and think and think and think, u will realize that the ridiculous belief that prayer helps the dead does not follow any sensible logic. It will even contradict the logic and principles of God. Unless the God is impartial of which I don't think so. Pray for anyone before his/her death.. Basic!
