It is not unusual to find Nigerians accusing the government of squandering taxpayers money.
However,it should be noted that bulk of govts revenue comes from oil exports and a little from taxes on large companies
I ask this pertinent question because I can state unequivocally that with exception of government workers(for whom it is compulsory), most nigerians do not pay their taxes......
This to a large extent contributes to the level of impunity in our nation since this to a large extent robs us of our moral justification to criticise the government and demand accountability...
What are ur opinions?

No they do not.
Nigerians pay a charge of 20,000 and still have enough income to buy a $30,000 car.

Those are indirect taxes and duties...I'm referring to income taxes and statements....taxes basically fund the budgets of most countries, nigeria however is an exception, we are overtly dependent on oil and the govt is not at all making any effort to put in place a veritable tax system. A country of 150 million people running on a $30 billion dollar budget, compare that with new york state which has a budget of $185 billion...,nigeria is a very poor country..I think the govt should really overhaul our tax systems and use our funds judiciously which will encourage people to pay their taxes

I think its only in Lagos where there is a semblance of a working tax system even though LIRS system is full of flaws

Gainfully employed Nigerians pay taxes (not just government workers), it is deducted from their paycheck.

Businesses operating in Nigeria (even small ones) pay taxes.

The FIRS rakes in billions annually in form of tax revenue.

Yeah, the bulk of govt revenue comes from oil but taxpayers still have the right to hold govt accountable even if their contribution is just N1.00 .
