year, I heard the boss was fired for failing to fabricate engine parts for Laikipia airbase, the delay went on for six months!, all the machines he needed were there, he just had poor management. after that it was put under new management in 2013, I hope the next guy is passionate and ambitius, that piece of 1500 acres (if I rem correctly) could be the heartbeat of our industrialization goals

I don't have the details but he deserved to be fired! Sometimes,we're responsible for our own underdevelopment. I hope we can get started on some serious indig weapons systems manufacture and development in this admin.

It has always been easy, but not practical. The Colombian Army has always operated Douglas AC-47 "Spooky" Gunship.

I just don't agree with the availability, cost and sustainability of operating a C-27J Gunship.

Priorities for African militaries.

- Helicopters

- Armoured mobility

- Fighter capabilities/ medium& heavy lift transport.

- Surveillance

- Network capabilities

That's the Ocelot LPPV/Foxhound used by the British Army.

$ 1.8 million dollars per Vehicle, it had better be flying, launching missiles and defusing mines/IEDs. That's just too expensive.

Jap definitely too expensive, for that money you can buy six mamba APCs which have better mine protection, better range and carry twice as many soldiers.

Although I must say the foxhound is pretty fvcking quick!!

Exactly! There is also the Jackal SPV used by British Special forces( Pathfinders), it costs $1.5 million, and the damn vehicle kept on breaking down in Afghanistan.

Some of these vehicles provide nothing new, excerpt maybe, Advanced comms equipment, and they un-necessarily cost a fortune.

Actually watched a program on the Foxhound, and I sh1t you not! The thing they were most proud of was replacing the standard glass mirrors with cameras and the mirrors themselves can fold in automatically with a touch of a button, basically like any modern day car.

They said this reduced the chances of having your mirrors broken and riped of when driving into things. They were so proud of this they even called it a world first and apparently redefined how mraps in the future will be built.

what we need is more transparency and accountability on budget spending how can a military like vietnam with a budget of less than 4 billion dollars have submarines,35 SU-27(SU-30 MK2 on order),S-300 12 and even self produce scud-B tactical ballistic missile e.t.c while nigeria which spends more than 6 billion dollars can't be even compared also the have 400,000 men in arms link http://www.globalfirepower.com/country-military-strength-detail.asp?country_id=vietnam , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_People%27s_Air_Force and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People%27s_Army_of_Vietnam

Because Nigeria doesn't spend $6 billion a year on defence, its more like $3.5 billion a year, and the extra $1-2 billion(not sure of the exact amount) was just a once off cash injection for hardware purcheses.

If Nigeria and South Africa whant a defence force that can be compared to any NATO country then they need to be spending at least 2% of GDP on their defence forces. I think SA is on the right track thanks to the approval of the Defence review, hopefully Nigeria can issue a Defence review of their own.

Anyway if we talk about Vietnam, the only possible way of fielding an Army of that size and on that budget is if either the majority of the 400000 are conscripts and get paid fvckall or they have most of their hardware in storage to save money on maintenance costs, but they surely can't be able to afford a 400000 strong professional army and still be able to pay for all the maintenance, especially those Sukhois which are pretty expensive to maintain.

wikipedia hasn't even included that they have started receiving SU-30's,the issue of maintenance has be talked alot especially us in africa because of our corrupt mentality .we want kickbacks and inflate prices of components to the detriment of our national security, while countries like cuba, vietnam are able to maintain vintage soviet era and latest weapons at pristine condition even mig-21's.what happened to nigeria mig-21's!africa militaries are the most corrupt government institutions because of their claim of secrecy

Haha you make a valid point mate! If only we could eradicate corruption, that will obviously help our defence forces alot!! But it is what it is and we should try to make due with the funds we eventually have available after the politicians have filled their pockets, yet I still believe both Nigeria and SA should spend at least 2% of GDP on defence. Great video BTW! Interesting mixture between some very old cold war era hardware and some of the more modern equipment, must say I'm quite impressed!

that video i got it from the vietnam military youtube channel here is the link https://www.youtube.com/user/GiaoducQP/videos

talk about being self reliant

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddGH49liOF4
the youtube channel isn't actual Vietnam military channel, but at least we get the idea self reliance is the motto,if you closely study china military this is the same chronology and this exact what ethiopia is doing with a relatively small budget of 300 million dollars.it being reported that vietnam is about to increase its defence budget because of the rising china which is also threatening its territorial claims.nigeria and south africa need to stop comparing themselves with countries like kenyan, mali, congo e.t.c and start challenging themselves with other developed countries
