Nope.

Short and to the point Mike grin. I'm beginning to suspect some questions here stem not from seeking info, but pre-conceived answers.
In other news, the SADC Special Forces annual exercise, code-named "Exercise Mahombekombe" for this year, starts in Lake Kariba tomorrow till September 26.
Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar, Malawi and DRC will not be participating. DRC because it can't spare the personnel and the others because they have no SF units. Mauritius and Malawi will send observers.

...... But @ Frumentius describes them as a specialised reconnaissance team, in the same mould as British Pathfinders.

I don't no where your bland "Nope" is coming from. Do you not know what tasks they perform?

They are not a primary recon team.

Poor conclusion! Questions are based primarily on a desire to understand your military, and not to create Conflict. There is a whole different thread for that (conflict).

44 Pathfinder Platoon is a specialised reconnaisance unit within 44 Parachute Regiment, trained to be deployed covertly ahead of the Paras, often behind enemy lines in small teams. Their tasks include intelligence gathering.....

This is your own description.

Do you know what a primary recon team is? If you do, how do you square that with the description I supplied?

You claimed your Pathfinders are a specialised recon team of your Paratroopers. I'm only reading about South-African Pathfinders for the first time today, never heard of them before.

So what then is the primary role of a specialised recon team?

They are SAR birds and are very active.

Two trailers suspected to be carrying logistics support to members of the Boko Haram Terrorist (BHT) sect have been intercepted and destroyed by the Nigerian Air Force Agusta helicopter on armed reconnaissance mission around the Nigeria-Cameroon border, Air Commodore Dele Alonge Director of Public Relations & Information Nigerian Air Force said in a statement on Sunday.

According to the NAF spokesperson, the trailers were covered and parked at different locations in the bush around the border town of Belel.

Alonge also informed that the recent air operation against Boko Haram targets was commanded by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar from NAF reconnaissance aircraft, the King Air 350i.

“The CAS coordinated the various NAF
platforms involved in the operation to
provide close air support to ground forces, led by the Chief of the Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, as they advance from Dikwa to Gamboru Ngala,” said Alonge.

He also revealed that NAF 260, a Mi-24V attack helicopter was hit during the operation, leading to a damage of one of the main rotor blades. He however added that the pilot was able to successfully fly the helicopter back to base to land.

He added that the affected aircraft has since been repaired and is back to the theater of operation.

I suspect what he and mike are getting at is the distinction is similar to how people confuse sf/sof. Same thing with primary and secondary roles.

Terminology makes a big difference

All i know that that their main job is to jump early and mark landing locations.

But being SOF they may full other roles, and since they are South African SOF they will full allot of other roles - hell i wouldent be suprised if the can do Pararescue ops as well.

But hey, i am not well versed on who does what when it comes to the top end of the SANDF's operator pyramid

One thing is for sure, they are operator as fvck

Love the COAS ; look @ him with helmet I haven't seing any COAS with helmet on the frontlines, he was ambushed on his way on Friday to the frontlines his not like other COAS that will fly in with choppers. His like George Patton and these little things goes a long to boost Bois morales and inconcate discipline on the way we carry out our duties on the fronts.
I hope you are aware that 1 soldier lost his life while protecting this coas and 2 others were injured and might soon die.
So please explain to me how it is justifyable for the coas to make such a trip and have some soldiers die just sothat someone can call him "patton".
How would you explain to the families of the dead soldiers that their bread winner died because the coas wanted to play "patton".
Why not just go with a hellicopter ? And save the lives of the soldiers ? As for wearing a helmet being an incredible fit, I really beg to differ.
I would like a coas who sits in his office and does his job instead of one who keeps playing to the gallery.
Besides, nigeria's coas being ambushed makes it look like the nigerian military is weak. bht is going to boast about this for decades.

I don't know if the Nigerian service chiefs are doing this to boast morale.

or they think their operational and tactical level commanders are incompetent to do their jobs to a point they(chiefs) have to be in the field, instead of dealing with strategic matters of the conflict.

Being with their men in the field can be understood but commanding ops?

But I think it is part of a PR campaign judging on how well document this has been.

7 medical battalion group operators do pararescue.

During deployment one Oryx helicopter is fitted for that purpose.

Take time to read and understand.

How can i conclude on my own, when i copied the photo from saengine?

The source of the Photo is Saengine. I don't know your military or it's branches. Saengine captioned the photo as SANDF "Paratrooper". Hence my title!

This is basic common sense!

Read the Bolden again cos I don't want to think you are slow

They've had canons on them for long now. Only rockets or missiles will do that kind of damage to two fully loaded trailers.

A cannon can destroy vehicles too.
