You did! By deliberately igniting an old argument for the sole purpose of getting a reaction.

Well of course mate, should we just sit back while people make controversial posts which are ill informed and intentionally combative, with the single purpose of evoking a reaction.

I ask again, go check who started this argument in the first place.

Henry mon ami, if as you claim, your comment was a jocular one, then some passing nod to truthfulness might have worked. As it is, it sounded all too familiarly like the usual obstinacy when faced with facts (See "Combat jump behind enemy lines" for reference). See what I just did there? wink

By the way, a regional power should NOT be celebrating this dangerous embarrassment:

Did your affirmation intentionally lead to an argument....... Yes it did, and you said it yourself, that you intentionally posted it to evoke a reaction.

You are wrong patches.

Good thing you agree you could be ignorant of this fact

Nigeria had it's first SF during the civil war. (3rd marine commando).

Look up 72 special forces battalion based in makurdi

What's new in our army is SOF of which men where selected from different special forces units

You south Africans should stop spewing ignoramus trash about something you don't know of. It's not funny

And yes. Your SF have not been in combat since inception of SANDF so it's wrong to rate them above any other.

I thought a pictorial representation of "lipstick on a pig" made my point far more powerfully, seeing this is a photos and videos thread!

A suggestion for the new year Henry: tighter moderation so excrement from that other thread does not over-flow onto this one. If statements don't relate to pics, should not be allowed.

A door-gunner manning the LMG on a chopper is not the same thing. It's precisely this tolerance of low expectations that's allowed your politicians to get away with under-funding the NA. Kudos to the men for making the best of a bad situation, it should not happen and it should not be defended.

Not the point of the photograph. We already had all the necessary discussions on that photo, all the discussions that's to be had, has already been had.

The guy in your pic isn't a door gunner, and his holding a 5.56 caliber m16 not a fvcking machine gun.

Also the sling is porpuse built, not mounted on the door(mounted on a window), does not impede access and looks professional.

training > experience

It doesnt matter how experienced you are if you simple cannot do certain things that the well trained ones can.

Nigeria SF have both training and experience combined, and the many photos on this forum prove it.

Tons and tons of photos show Nigerian navy SBS, air force QRS, and army SF training all over the world. We have Training from America, Britain, China, Belarus, Pakistan, and Israel.

Those are some of the best SF nations on earth and Nigerian Special Forces have their training combined with our current war experience of over 12 years spanning from Niger Delta swamp war to Boko Haram desert and urban city wars.

Show us how the current South African special forces match Nigeria's mixed training from all over the world plus 12 years constant battlefield experience... show us how much diverse training and real war experience the current new ANC era recruits of South African Special Forces of today have , forget about the 60 year old retired men of apartheid era, those ones will not fight war for South Africa today
.

1) I don't know patches. You tell me since you know the exploits of the marine commandos better. And no you ignoramus. They were not based on the royal marine commandos

2)Are you drunk?

Do you bother to do research before making an opinion. This is definitely one problem with you people( especially you)

I said look up 72nd special forces battalion of the Nigerian army. They've been active from the maitatsine, Taliban to boko haram insurgencies. That's more than 20 years

Has Nigeria had other conventional threats aside Islamic terrorism? So engaging in such operations which conforms with the kind of threat doesn't qualify them as SF despite the SF training they are made to undergo?

So you are saying since the SANDF SF have been useless for the past 20+ years disqualifies them as well?

3) what's new is we are gradually shifting towards SOF which we lacked initially. Look up the formation of such units and see they were drawn mostly from the 72 SF battalion.

Sometimes it's not wrong to admit ignorance over matters you are clearly ignorant on.

This thread is not where you should bring your misleading tales of fantasy.

It will come to a time you will believe Buratai is a Kenyan army chief with the way you keep trying to misinform yourself

1. Your Marine Commando's did amphibious assaults in the biafra war. Barely even SoF

2. Again Sf and SOF is dependant on usage and role. Not on what you choose to call them.

3. just a new SOF unit

4. recce ops in Angola qualify them as SF (training and leading UNITA formations and deep recon).

There is no need to get personal or insulting, to the layman all specialist units are SF but to us, we must use the correct terminology and in that regards there is a big difference between SoF and SF

Learn the difference between:

-SOF (basically military Swat)
And
-Sf (teachers, trainers, eyes and ears)

And we will discuss

"lost",means many things

My source is from 2009 and was made after the army had finished investigations into the matter - and they found that no weapons were lost or missing

In future, please:
1. Leave the anti-rsa rhetoric in the other thread
2. Read the sources I post

Also - Nigeria lost weapons to the Ruf

https://www.google.co.za/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.ecoi.net/file_upload/1002_1257249297_2000-op01-sierraleone.pdf&ved=0ahUKEwi50YO1i_rJAhXGtBoKHcWFDE0QFgguMAc&usg=AFQjCNFJAR7WsvTv2j18I0qbtrlZi4xX0w&sig2=_4D8lBy7np3pmYpQM1-odw

Why don't you quote where Nigeria lost weapons to RUF in that your weblink and list what equipment we lost?

Any lost Nigerian equipment will be searched for, found and destroyed by NA and NAF, that is our doctrine and we proved it again in this Boko Haram war, all equipment we lost were recovered on land or destroyed by air....the photos are all over Nairaland forum military threads.

SANDF doctrine is to leave all weapon s behind in the hands of rebels who capture them from SANDF, then you abandon those countries in the middle of war crisis and say your mandate has ended, as it the Africans dying there are not human beings, you abandon them and say you have done what you wish to do and nobody can hold South Africa responsible for the chaos it leaves behind in weaker smaller African nations that needed your help which you only give on your own selfish terms or you even refuse to help at all.

Nigeria defeated RUF and restored peace to Sierra Leone, Nigerian army supervised and controlled the surrender of ALL weapons and TOTAL DISARMAMENT of ALL rebels in Sierra Leone, and the country is still at peace today, and Nigerian army is still there building up that nation's army and supporting it's democracy to mature.

Show me which country has a war or near war crisis that SANDF intervened alone and that country has peace today. Don't quote UN multinational operations in Congo where Tanzania led the battle.

I have no anti-South African rhetoric, this argument started actually from the anti-Nigerian rhetoric of frumentius the South African who complained that photos of Nigerian SF training with ATGM in Belarus should not have been posted on this thread, how does he have a right to say that? Nigerian troops should not be seen training with anti- tank missiles? Envy? Hatred? Or both coming from the South Africans
