Naijahottestgist has reported that some angry youths in Lagos gave a member of the House of Representatives, Yomi Ogunusi, the beating of his life on Wednesday after the lawmaker only returned to his constituency for the first time since he won at the election in 2011.

Ogunusi would have died from the assault if not for God and the prompt intervention of some policemen who came to his rescue.

It was reported that the legislator representing Ifako Ijaiye Constituency in the lower chamber of the National Assembly, NASS, was at the ward meeting of the All Progressive Congress, APC, held at the party's secretariat in the area when the angry party faithfuls pounced on him.

The youths were angry at the lawmaker because he allegedly abandoned them and refused to pick their repeated calls to his four mobile phone numbers since he moved to Abuja to represent them at the NASS.

When he stormed the ward meeting on Wednesday, he was reportedly asked to go back since he has allegedly not done anything to better their lives. It was when he refused to obey their order that the youth dealt with him, tearing his T-shirt in the process. He was later whisked away in his black Lexus jeep.

Meanwhile, when contacted by Naijahottestgist, he neither picked nor replied calls and text message sent to him.

Ineffectual politician playing money politics, eh? A case of just desserts, methinks.

Here is another account of what actually transpired.

As if we are beggars: APC lawmaker pelted with sachets of ‘pure water’ in Lagos

A member of the House of Representatives, representing Ifako-Ijaye Local Government area of Lagos state, Chief Michael Ogunnusi was pelted with sachets of pure water by rambunctious youths who felt insulted by the lawmakers’ largesse of N200,000 to augment efforts of the members and leaders across the ward levels in the council.

The incident occurred during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress in the council.

Earlier, a former Special Adviser on Education in Lagos State, Mr. Elijah Adewale donated N50, 000 to every ward within the local government for the same purpose.

However, Ogunnusi while making a speech at the event announced a donation of N200,000 to be shared by all the wards in the council. The lawmaker’s gesture angered many of the APC members, who rejected the money and disrupted the ceremony for what they termed “insult on them by the Reps member as if we are beggars.”

Recently a member of the House of Representatives, Jerry Manwe, defended the exorbitant pay being received by legislators in the country because he believed that Nigeria’s politics was different from that practised elsewhere in places where ludicrous demands aren’t made on lawmakers. He must feel justified following the action of constituents of Ifako-Ijaye.

In the midst of the pandemonium, Ogunnusi’s security aides made frantic efforts to protect him from being mobbed. He however couldn’t escape being pelted with sachets of pure water as they managed to whisk him away.

But the grouse of the Ifako-Ijaye people wasn’t just with the fact that his donation was considered small. Reactions from the aggrieved members of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) now grafted into APC revealed that ”Since election ended in 2011, Ogunnusi has refused to attend meetings in the local government, claiming he was busy with state matters in Abuja. He was avoiding us like a plague and now he came to woo us with N200, 000 when election is approaching. He thinks we are beggars.”

Confirming this view, Chairman of the defunct ACN in the council, Mr. Akintunde Fadayomi, said members of the party had always asked him to tell Ogunnusi to find time to attend the party meetings in the council.

Another member, who gave her name as Kafayat, said, ”What happened today is a proof that the electorate will no longer tolerate any member of the political class, who uses them during election and abandons them when he or she gets to position.”

Tinubu even hand picked state house of assembly members. Being popular doesn't guarantee winning an election in ACN/APC.
