What exactly is so difficult about SYN flood attack that defy resolution by a serious network security system, people and process? We are not even talking about serious network attack here. Most servers everywhere around the world face daily attack. How exactly is Sahara Reporters attack different from those happening on millions of servers worldwide even as I type? From Washington Post to BBC to CNN, including our mail servers or portal servers in our offices, if engineers should issue press release about such attacks, it would really be an interesting world. |

It is time to drop a firewall in front of the web server, assign a private IP address to the server and let the firewall handle all in coming traffic. All SYN, half open TCP, POST, etc attacks will be dropped by the firewall and your server can be happy again...plus attackers will no longer be able to attack the server or reach it directly, since private IPs are Internet routable. If you want to step up the fight, throw is an IDS, though an IPS would be better and you will be ready to take the fight back to the attackers. |

linearity: It is time to drop a firewall in front of the web server, assign a private IP address to the server and let the firewall handle all in coming traffic.Although systems with private IPs do not connect directly to the internet and computers outside the local network can't connect directly to such systems, and having an IDPS even detects and prevents malicious intrusions. Don't assume it cannot be hacked. NAT only reduces your vulnerability to the outside world. What if those sahara guys have a mole inside their local network? Who is creating the backdoors for the hackers |
