…as OMT inaugurates two marine tankers in Warri …It’s a fulfillment of local content initiative- Allison-Madueke Written by Ebenezer Adurokiya - Warri Monday, 26 August 2013 02:31 After about 17 years of comatose and foreign domination, Nigeria may just be on her way to recover her lost glory in the maritime sector with the inauguration of two indigenous cargo ships, at the weekend in Warri, Delta State by President Goodluck Jonathan. Jonathan, who heaved a sigh of relief that the prolonged over-dominance of foreign vessels in the shipment of crude oil in the country is gradually coming to an end, made this conclusion during the inauguration of two indigenous cargo vessels, MT Abiola and Igbinosa, at New Port, Nigeria Port Authority complex, along Warri/Sapele Road, Warri. This is just as the Special Guest of Honour at the event, Minister for Petroleum, Mrs Diezani Allison-Madueke, during her keynote address, disclosed that the feat is one of the results of the Local Content Act initiated by the present Federal Government. The two sea tankers, named MT Abiola and MT Igbinosa, meant to ship crude oil to national and international markets, were acquired and being managed by Ocean Marine Tankers Limited, a member of the OMS Group of Companies with Dr (Captain) Idahosa Wells Okunbo as chairman. The inauguration witnessed the attendance of the crème de la crème of the society which included Minister of Petroleum, Minister of Transportation, Senator Idris Audu Umar, Chief Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Dele Ezeoba, osn of late business mogul, MKO Abiola, Chief Kola Abiola, Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Mr Ziadeke Patrick Akpobolokemi, Executive Secretary of Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, among others. President Goodluck Jonathan, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Maritime Matters, Mr Olugbega Leke Oyewole, said that the hope of the country was restored with the acquisition of MT Abiola and Igbinosa, owned by a Nigerian company, to boost the marine sector as it relates to the oil and gas industry. “Nigeria is back in the international shipping business; the shipping line that went out of Nigeria 17 years ago. Today, our hope is restored and our dreams have come true,” Jonathan noted www.tribune.com.ng |

This desperate FG, trying to take credit for every little thing. The post clearly says its a private investment by a local company, what does Jonathan have to do with this? The truth is the FG has achieved very little thats why they now want to take credit for hardworking Nigerians' hustle 1 Like |

Great........ I hear that the local participation is now more than 30% from about 10% in 2010 when the Local Content Act was passed Nigerians should control the lifting of its Oil, instead of its total Control by Foreigners. Kudos |
