Confusion In Enugu As Chime Revokes Ex-governors' Lands, Demolishes Houses by Atouke: 7:10pm On Aug 28, 2013
Enugu — The current decision by the Enugu State government to embark on incessant revocation and demolition of several houses and landed property in its state capital has raised a lot of dust. It is believed in many quarters that the Sullivan Chime-led administration, through the state Ministry of Lands, in conjunction with the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA), has probably bitten more than it can chew.

There are a series of litigations and verbal attacks from victims of the exercise, which seems rather endless. They are accusing the government of deliberate mischief and vendetta, saying it does not follow due process in the execution of the policy.

The state Commissioner for Lands, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ujam and his counterpart in the ECTDA, Engr. Ike Ugwuegede, are seen as major players in the exercise, hence they have come under heavy attacks by the people.

It would, however, be recalled that revocation and demolition of people's houses and other landed property in the state did not begin with Governor Sullivan Chime. His predecessor, Chimaroke Nnamani, was once known as the "bulldozer governor." That was when his administration, in a controversial manner, revoked lands and demolished people's houses. He was accused of entrenching the culture of gross impunity and mischief.

Under the present government, former Governor Nnamani's only land in the Zoo Estate, Enugu, was allegedly revoked and reallocated to another prominent person in the state. While some people criticise the governor for this action, others say the former governor got exactly what he bargained for, having taken similar, or even worse action against other people when he was in office.

A Commissioner for Information and Culture under the former governor, Mr. Igbonekwu Ogazimorah was also not spared by the bulldozers. His 17-block of stores, located around New Market, was demolished. It was alleged that no reason was given for the action.

Also, a former governor of the state, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo is not happy with Governor Chime for revoking and pulling down his fence and building near the Appeal Court at Independence Layout, Enugu.

Again, son of the late governor of old Anambra State, Chief C.C Onoh, Mr. Umunnakwe Onoh, was visited with similar fate. His property at Ekulu West Layout, G.R.A, Enugu, was demolished.

Doing things with reckless abandon aimed at getting back at presumed enemies has always been the cases with our politicians.

I pity some people who happened to feel the heat of the aggression.

Doing things without no tangible reason or cause is childish, except the gov.'s got a definable agenda behind the demolition.

But if all was aimed at vengeance, then, I'll say it's isn't worth it.

The best proven form of vengeance, is to succeed and excel and surpass the achievements of one's enemies.

Wait a second, this news looks one sided though.
