Iranian Film On Ashura Set For Release by LagosShia: 7:56pm On Sep 04, 2013
First giant cinematic project on the epic of Ashura directed by the country’s celebrated filmmaker Ahmad Reza Darvish is nearly ready for public screening.

The project with Persian title of Rouz-e Rastakhiz (The Day of Resurrection) has been designed and produced for domestic and international screening programs.

Dubbed into English and Arabic, the movie carries the English title of He Who Said No and Arabic title of Yawm-ul-Hurriyah (The Day of Freedom).

The Day of Resurrection narrates the uprising story of Prophet Muhammad’s grandson Imam Hussein (PBUH) against the Umayyad caliph in Iraq.

The film skillfully illustrates Imam Hussein’s epic on Ashura in Karbala and his martyrdom along with the tragedy of his companions.

Darvish’s big-budget movie has been financed by some Iranian and foreign film companies as the film’s post-production stage was completed at a British studio.

Some scenes of the project have been created by the usage of a 3D computer-generated imagery (CGI) technique.

Many prominent and renowned international cineastes also contributed to this Iranian blockbuster.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire famous actor David Sterne, Talhat Hamdi and Fawaz Sarwar from Syria, Dawood Hussain from Kuwait, and Yusuf Shekarchi from Iraq are some of the foreign actors who star at the film.

British-Indian film editor Tariq Anwar was in charge of editing the film. He was nominated for an Academy Award in 2011 for his work in The King’s Speech.

The shooting stage of The Day of Resurrection took nearly eleven months, the director had earlier announced.

‘Ashura’ marks the day when Imam Hussein, along with 72 of his companions, was martyred in a battle against the second Umayyad caliph in Karbala, Iraq, more than 14 centuries ago.

Imam Hussein is referred as “Lord of Martyrs” by Shia Muslims and is remembered as the symbol of freedom and dignity.

Imam rose up against the tyrant of the time, Yazid, and was martyred after rejecting allegiance to him.

Ashura symbolizes the eternal struggle of truth against falsehood and the battle against injustice and cruelty realized by Imam Hussein as he offered supreme sacrifice to uphold the principles against tyranny.

Shia Muslims around the world commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (PBUH)
