Bishop Oyedepo’s Men Beat Ogun Tax Officials Into Stupor For Daring To Seek For Tax Payment

Staff and security personnel of Kingdom Heritage Nursey School, located within the complex of Winners’ Chapel in Otta descended on tax officials from Ogun Statw Government on Thursday beating them into stupor and even detaining some of the officials.

The Kingdom Heritage Nursery School is run by Winners’ Chapel founded by Bishop David Oyedepo.

According to the state government, the school, a commercial enterprise, has not paid tax for seven years and has blatantly refused to respond to several ‘notices of assessment’ from the state Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS).

On Thursday, the tax officials had only gone to the school on awareness but the school officials descended on them, beating them mercilessly, detaining and damaging their vehicles.

The attack led to the hospitalisation of one official, while others suffer different degree of injuries.

The Ogun State Government reacting to the incident, condemned in strong terms, the violent assault on its tax officials by staff of the Kingdom Heritage Nursery School, a commercial venture located within the complex of Winners Chapel, Ota.

The government described as unwarranted and unlawful the detention of the revenue officers by the security personnel of the school, damage of assets belonging to the tax body and attack which led to the hospitalization of one official and minor injuries to others.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday in Abeokuta, the Chairman of Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS), Mr Jide Odubanjo, said “it is the height of irresponsibility and lawlessness for any person or group of persons to assault government officials who are performing their lawful duties.”
