Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, on Monday, inaugurated the renovation of 18 general hospitals in the state at the cost of N1billion, with the governor announcing that two new hospitals would also be built from the amount.
Governor Fayemi, while inaugurating the scheme tagged “Operation Renovate All General Hospitals” at the General Hospital,.Iyin-Ekiti, said it was part of the eight-point agenda of his administration, saying without good health, the purpose of all the other programmes in the agenda being carried out by his administration would be defeated.

According to him, the 300-bed Oba Rufus Adejugbe General Hospital under construction in Ado Ekiti would also be completed soon to lift the burden of primary and some secondary health issues off the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital.
Fayemi said the programme was anchored on the progressive ideology of free health services pioneered by Chief Obafemi Awolowo and concretised by Major General Adeyinka Adebayo during the Old Western Region.

The governor said the renovation of existing hospitals and the construction of new ones became imperative to serve as feeder stations between the primary health centres and EKSUTH, the only state-owned tertiary hospital in the state.
Fayemi said: “Some of these hospitals were built by our leader, Major General Adeyinka Adebayo, about 40 years ago. During that time, they were cottage hospitals and cynosure of all eyes during that time. But today, it have become embarrassing edifices because of their dilapidated states.”

On another note, I hope there's gonna be high tech equipments and apparatus plus highly trained personnels to treat major ailments and diseases such as cancer, kidney, hear and liver diseases etc?

It is high time we started to trust some of these politicians. Fayemi has no antecedent of graft. So you have to trust him.

Where did you get the figure of 500 billion from? He is spending 1 billion naira only on renovation of 18 General Hospitals and building 2 new General Hospitals. The question should be: how is he going to achieve that with mere 1 billion naira? That money is not enough.

There are thousands of unfinished projects scattered across the country which these people don't even know if they can finish.

The figure quoted is actually for the rehabilitation of existing hospitals only.

The rehabilitation of the general hospitals, which is billed to be completed within eight to 10 weeks, will cost the government N955,094,403.51.

Fayemi disclosed that the two new general hospitals would be built in Ilawe and Iye Ekiti in Ekiti South West and Ilemejemeje Local Government Areas of the state, while the 320-bed Oba Adejugbe General Hospital in Ado Ekiti would be completed to provide an alternative for the residents of the state capitalm following the upgrading of the general hospital in Ado to a University Teaching Hospital.

Dont forget that Ekiti is nt an oil rich state. They have to spend within the limit of their income to avoid heavy debt... 1billion, if meticulously used will go a mile in d renovation and new constructions too. Cost of building in Ekiti is not as alarming as compare to Lagos.

Ekiti is a rural state compare to Anambra. One city in Anambra like Onitsha or Nnewi has economy X3 of the entire Ekiti state. Equally Onitsha alone commands higher IGR than entire ekiti state. In a nutshell the only SE state that can be compared to Ekiti is most likely Imo or Ebonyi states in terms of IGR. Fact!
