Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has said his administration has completed, equipped and fully furnished 250 Model Primary Schools across the State which are now ready for commissioning.

He also pledged to complete construction work on the ongoing roads and construct more roads to ease traffic un the State.
Governor Amaechi spoke friday, during the Governor Amaechi Meets the Press media briefing in Government House, Port Harcourt.

“In terms of the model primary schools, we have currently completed and fully furnished 250 of them in the state, so they are ready for commissioning”, Amaechi said.

For the new model secondary schools, Governor Amaechi said seven of them would be ready for commissioning in September this year.
He named the model secondary schools to be completed, equipped and furnished in September to include those in Eleme, Saakpenwa, Oyigbo, Etche, Omuma, Buguma and Emohua in different Local Government Areas of the state.
Amaechi said, “All these new model secondary schools will be ready in September. We will likely invite the President; Dr Goodluck Jonathan to come and commission either the model secondary school in Eleme or Saakpenwa, then the President will also commission one model primary school as the starting point for our 200 schools in 200 days for 200 communities in the state.”
He also assured that the foundation stone for the new Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) would be laid in September in the new Greater Port Harcourt City.
On health, Governor Amaechi said the new world-class Kelsey Harrison hospital and the Dental hospital both in Port Harcourt would soon become operational once the process of handing them over to foreign firms to run and manage is completed.
He said his administration has built in the State over 100 primary healthcare centres while the remaining ones would be completed before the end of the year.
“We have gone beyond 100 primary healthcare centres. We are currently at 120 healthcare centres now. We promised the state 160 healthcare centres, so we will deliver on the 160, hopefully before the end of the year”.
On roads, Amaechi said several of them have been completed especially in the metropolis with streetlights on them.
“The Chief G. U. Ake Road, for instance, is a very good road that will last for a very long time because of the materials that was used in the construction of the road”, he said.
Some of the completed roads include Chief G. U. Ake road, Peter Odili road, Elekahia road, Ken Saro-Wiwa road, Port Harcourt-Owerri road amongst others.
Amaechi further said, “Work is now going on at Okporo road, and we have awarded the contract for the Rumuolumeni-Rumuepirikom road. We have also awarded the contract for Eliparanwo road”.
He re-assured that there would be 24-hour power supply in Port Harcourt by the end of the year. He explained that in the bid to provide stable power supply in the state, his administration is installing more power sub-stations across the state.
Governor Amaechi also again pledged his administration’s commitment towards completing the monorail.
“Work is ongoing at the Monorail. It is a very slow process because of the technical nature of the job, but we have everything about the monorail on ground in Port Harcourt…”.
On water and security, Governor Amaechi disclosed that his government was talking with the World Bank to fund the water scheme in the state. He also noted the improved security in the state and expressed further determination to sustain the prevailing peace and security.
The Rivers State governor also spoke about current efforts been made by his administration in the area of agriculture to provide gainful employment for the unemployed in the state as well as develop manpower through the state’s foreign scholarship programme.
