the planmaker: it is true that Nigerian universities are poorly funded, hence they lack basic teaching and learning facilities. but the major rot in our institutions has little to do with funding. lack of ethics, discipline and standard among those who administer education in Nigeria has been our biggest undoing. the lecturers who collect money in exchange for marks, or demand sexual favours from female students are all ASUU members. they are responsible for the brain drain in the country. so if ASUU is actually fighting for a better educational system, they should start by cleaning their own house first. even with pour funding, if lecturers are determined to teach and do what is right, we ll produce employable graduates ......I think this ASUU strike is all about "earned allowances" nothing more the planmaker: it is true that Nigerian universities are poorly funded, hence they lack basic teaching and learning facilities. but the major rot in our institutions has little to do with funding. lack of ethics, discipline and standard among those who administer education in Nigeria has been our biggest undoing. the lecturers who collect money in exchange for marks, or demand sexual favours from female students are all ASUU members. they are responsible for the brain drain in the country. so if ASUU is actually fighting for a better educational system, they should start by cleaning their own house first. even with pour funding, if lecturers are determined to teach and do what is right, we ll produce employable graduates ......I think this ASUU strike is all about "earned allowances" nothing more. You seriously needs prayers. In as much as i agreed with u that some lecturers needs repentance of heart & sanity, i disagree with u that their main target is earned allowance. Based on ur sick opinion, FG should nt fund universities until lecturers work on themselves in their attitudinal display. U forgot that a problem solved can help in solving the other. A well funded university with good labouratories, quality libraries, well biult hostels, lecture theaters and above all, good and conducive environment has d ability to reduce corruption. U dont knw dat one. It may interest u to know dat wht is fueling coruption in Nigeria is absence of Mortgage facilities which Mr Goodluck has refused to impliment. |

Who would suffer the consequences of this strike my guess is its the students the youths,my personal opinion is this, the rot and decay in our university system has developed over time through successive regime, just as the ASUU chairman stated, what i gather from his statement is that ,this problem has been lingering for a long time which most nigerians are aware of so having this in mind one would expect the chairman to reach a compromise for the good of the nation,if you ask for 100% and you get 50% why not work with the 50 holding on to another agreement for the balance, this you do for the good of the nation in general ,but the nigeria mentality would be no i must get what i want and how i want it ,for me decades of rot can't be solved over night or in one regime if they keep been adamant to negotiations it would mean they in for their pockets or its politically motivated because this is not the right time for strike and they should understand one thing the consequences of making students sit at home without doing anything would affect all so the best thing to do is to reach a compromise we all know we need stability but most of us shy away from the truth. 2 Likes |

You are shallow minded. You mean facilities meant for 200 students in ABU now being occupied by over 5000 students should be blamed on bad eggs among ASUU. Lecturers should continue to teach and conduct research with outdated teaching and research equipment and methods currently in our Universities. They should use their earned allowance to conduct research, publish papers, go for conferences? Are you educated at all? |
