Sentiments aside.

Anybody who has thought long and hard about the abysmal land use patterns in our SW states must have thought of this at some point.

This is actually an elegant albeit heartless/dictatorial solution and can only be implemented by a fearless governor( who might have evil ulterior motives but we might never be able to know that until much later).

It is cheaper to reallocate government land ( the school sits on land directly owned by the government) for government purposes than to demolish built up neighbourhoods and pay landlords inflated amounts ( especially in a place like Osogbo where almost every landlord is a practising real estate speculator).

Yes people are emotionally attached to Fakunle comprehensive and other schools but the simple fact is that sometimes the old must make way for the new.

If we must progress, then we must rebuild our cities. And we can do that by demolishing homes and businesses or by simply reallocating government owned land.

Has anybody asked whether the newly allocated schools can handle the students being sent there? Is it possible the schools were under-utilised? (I am just playing Devil's advocate, dont cane me on that.)

And it is also a fact that , current unprofitability aside, malls like shoprite are the future as far as Nigeria is concerned. Visit Shoprite at Sandfill area in lekki and see bread queues by people from all parts of the social strata. And that will not be the end of it.

It is not even an ACN thing (even if they would like to claim ownership of such as a sign of their "progressiveness"wink. You will see this repeated across Nigeria in more and more places as international shopping brands move in to take advantage of Nigeria's growing middle class.

Take this from me: This will be repeated in Abia, Kogi, Jos , Abuja, Owerri , Asaba, Benin, Ado-Ekiti and more. Old structures will give way to malls or other necessary improvements.

One other thing, unless you can amass the right multitude/momentum to reverse the decision, then we should focus more on ensuring the reclaimed land is used for a good purpose.

Hmmmm..are they still arguing this! How can any sane person whether Yoruba or justify demolition school for a market. If APC does not retrace their step we will vote them out in the SW. We should put sentiment aside and condemn this evil.
