His speakership position was an error of political miscalculation. So, ploys to bring him down is not going to be surprising and unexpected. The only thing I know is that Mr GEJ is making more enemies by so doing within his party which is going to be a welcomed development for the masses.
Enough of bad leadership.

seunfly: I hope 100 honorable rep members will not become d majority that can impeach or elect as we have seen in recent time in this administration.
you do not have to be dull, your name is not abdull. Apc reps in that house is not even up to 100. We have numerous reps of labour party, apga, unpp, etc extract. These are mainly die hard jona pals. Some of the few new pdp 57 reps will invariably decamp when their benefactors seem to be losing out completely. This is politics, game over for the rubber head tambuwal..

donphilopus: There are indications that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Tambuwal is under pressure to resign following his tacit support for the rebel New PDP members in the House and his inability to stem the growing acrimony in the PDP caucus.

Nigerian Pilot gathered that the plot to unseat Tambuwal thickened last week Wednesday when majority PDP members in the House loyal to the national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur held a secret meeting in Abuja.

Among the long list of Tambuwal’s alleged sins Nigerian Pilot’s findings revealed include; “disloyalty to party decisions, insubordination to party authority, anti-party activities, actions likely to derail the integrity of the House and the country’s democracy and rudderless leadership.”

A source close to aggrieved members added thus, “we are of the view that the leadership; that is Tambuwal’s deputy, Ihedioha, the majority leader and the rest we know, reason, think and do things the way Tambuwal does. Hence, they must also go with him.”

Speaker Tambuwal and the 57 “New PDP” members in the House were said to have gotten wind of the meeting, which prompted the House to quickly adjourn sittings till October 22 to give the Tambuwal loyalists apple time to strategize on how to counter the move to impeach the Speaker.

Though the leadership of the House claimed they were adjourning for the forthcoming Muslim Salah celebration and the lesser Hajj, Nigerian Pilot gathered from authoritative sources that the reason adduced for the sudden adjournment is to allow tension die down and same time give Tambuwal loyalists enough time to lobby members of the House elected on the platform of the opposition parties.

Since the split in PDP on August 31, 57 out of 208 PDP members in the House of Representatives, in obedience to the demands of their governors in the Baraje camp, declared support for the splinter group, leading to tension and mutual suspicion among PDP members in the House.

Following the split in the rank of PDP members, the 57 “New PDP” have been banking on all the opposition lawmakers to rally to their side in an event there is an attempt to sack Tambuwal.

Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon Zakari Mohammed, who is also a member of the “New PDP”, had at a pre-resumption news conference in Abuja on September 13 given an insight into the thinking among Tambuwal supporters when he declared that members of the “New PDP” will team up with the opposition elements in the house and invariable turn the old PDP into minority party in the house.

He said the PDP has 208 out of the 360 members of the House, while the All Progressives Congress controls 137 members.

“It is likely that the ‘rebellious’ new PDP members will team up with the APC members to decide major issues in the House. There are 137 APC members who may choose to team up with the 57 PDP rebels and become the majority in the House. So, who is the minority now?” he asked.

However, it was gathered that the strategy to rely on opposition lawmakers to save Tambuwal appears to have backfired as majority of the opposition lawmakers, who played critical role in the election of Tambuwal as speaker have opted not to join the fray which they perceived as pure internal affairs of PDP.

The opposition lawmakers position to stay neutral in the PDP crisis is said to have unsettled Tambuwal’s camp and the speaker is said to be under pressure to throw in the towel instead of facing possible impeachment when the house resumes on October 22.

if the opposition members will withdraw their support at a time like this then I suspect foul play. in conclusion, they attended the rumoured breakfast meeting that prompted the sacking of Emordi.

Most of you here dont know anything about Nigerian politics. That there are 360 members does not mean all the members have to be present to impeach the speaker. There has never been a time when all the members were present in the house except maybe at the inauguration. The key factors that determine impeachment are resources and politicking. Those who support Tambuwal do not necessarily love him. People just align themselves to wherever they think suits them most. The moment they begin to loose confidence in Tambuwal not being able to serve their interest, they will dump him. He will be dealt with at the right time. The only reason he is still there is because GEJ is a gentle man. If the president really wants him out, he will be thrown out and even the opposition reps will join to impeach him.

Just like GEJ was not pulling everything to stop Tambuwal from ever being speaker.Question is did GEJ ever succeed in all his ploy against the speaker? Time and again the reps have shown GEJ and co lack any power in there chambers QED. So call it politics, GEJ so far lacks behind Tambuwal as far as the floor of reps is concern. Better GEJ fight govs jare.I bet you the worst GEJ can do is illegally disorganise the house.
That said german may have being strong in the 2nd world war.but her blunders for me remains fighting on multiple fronts at the same time.Gej most know he has to reduce the fronts he is battling.people are confusing him and deceiving him to fight more fronts. He needs to watch it.

I really wonder where those haters of 'the most loved Nigerian President' (as agreed to in one Thread earlier today), our beloved President GEJ and his Party, The PDP are. I've only spotted a negligible few of them here who make it their stock in trade to spew evil about GEJ and his party, fanning the embers of disunity vis-à-vis supporting dissident and rebellious members.
And even on this Thread , they have blindly refused to admit the obvious.
Those that are more knowledgeable and vested with the Nigerian politics and parliamentary leadership issues on this forum have educated them that but for President GEJ's calmness and peace-loving nature, Tambuwal ousting is a fait äccompli.
But they won't listen.
Ok now, let's watch!

This story shouldn't make the front page because it lacks credibility.so many contradictory issues are raised that are not on par with the polity at the moment. For instance, you don't need to think twice to know that house leadership matter is not exclusive to only the PDP lawmakers because they are not the only ones involved in electing the speaker. It's logical to say the issue of old & new PDP is an internal PDP matter but it is naive to say house leadership is exclusive to PDP(remember they must be involved in both election & impeachment procedures).you can imagine the level of incuriousness of the writer. It's a no-brainer.

I hope Tambuwal finally leaves, one way or another.
A situation where the yorubas are not one of the seven ranking positions

- President & VP
- Senate President & Deputy
- HoR Speaker & Deputy
- Chief Justice of the Federation

at the federal sharing table is NOT correct.

And this is all the doing of our "master political strategist", the Asiwaju of our times, Ogbeni Ojuyobo- the JagaBANDIT of Bourdillon Road!
Shows just how far Tinubu is ready to sell his own people's birthright in Nigeria's quota system sharing formula in serving the parochial interests of his cattle breeding masters in the Arewa People's Congress.

How i wish i was in your location i would have given u a bottle of wine.So many peeps here on NL just wake up to make nasty and baseless assumption all in the name of sentimental politics. They should ask themselves how the influential "Oyi of Oyi" Chief Chuba Okadigbo was booted out as the Senate President with all the popularity and charisma he had in the Hallowed chamber. In matter of the National Assembly what matters is the level of financial lobby to the Legislators and not a mere love or party support of the Speaker. Why should an APC member just wake up and decides that he will surely support the Speaker when he or she is lobbied by the Speaker's team? What those men consider first is the amount of cash throwned to them cause they have nothing to lose if Tambuwal is impeached. Some of the members don't even like him cause they were not favoured in committee sharing therefore they still have grudge against Mr Speaker. This might be the right time for them to pay him back.

Name any Speaker or President of the Senate of Northern origin that was ever impeached. Even Salisu Buhari of Toronto fame voluntarily stepped down and participated in hand picking his successor - Ghali Naabaa. Upon all what Na'abaa did to Obj including impeachment attempt and the presidency several attempts to remove him, he completed his term. His successor - Bello Masari also completed his own tenure despite being anti-third term yet Nnamani (the then senate president) was harangued for the same offence by the presidency. David Mark is about completing 8 years term.

Okadigbo was easily removed because almost all eastern senators wanted to taste that seat hence the backstabbing and lack of unanimity in the southeast caucus thus allowing enemy to wedge in.

Tambuwal wants to bite d fingers that feeds him.
@d possibility of his impeachment;Apperently in my view he can ousted out. How?If Out of 360 house members,158 pro Tukur/Gej led PDP +15LP/APGA (90% of this lot should be pro GEJ which makes them anti Tambuwal).Among the 137 APC members,me thinks some might not be too comfortable with Tambuwal,so vote against him.Again when the chips are down, the npdp claim of 58 members might just turn out to be a fiction.
WARSAW NEVER SAW WAR UNTIL WAR CAME TO WARSAW.
I'm watching...
you are very right........! And beside is not all the APC members that would want †̥ support his arrogant pattern of leadership! As a good leader he's not suppose †̥ bring in the PDP crises †̥ d houx! The G7 npdp are nt greater than the other PDP Governors in Nigeria!
