Most of the quack staff in our aviationindustry were recruited by Fani Kayode who was proud to declare openly that he favoured yorubas and people from his town in appointments and recruitments during his tenure. Even though they were not experienced. Dusts wia raised when Stella Odua tried to retire some of those junkies, they started shouting "tribalism" yet the same hypocrits wana crucify her for an aviation tragedy not under her control. NCAA Director should be fired immediately before you start dreaming of aviation Minister.

Ngwakwe: Be principle for once, everything must not be about pleasing your political camp.

I wouldn't have boardered challenging your position if I sensed any reasonable critique from you towards FFK and some of other APC/South West Government irresponsibility in Nairaland.

Moreover, you lack the authority to apportion blame without proper knowledge of the working organisational structures in Aviation Minister.

If you read well the defence put forward by FFK after the exchange of words, FFK said he is not calling for her sack rather for improvement and implementation of whatever white paper that comes out this investigation.

keep playing the ethnic and politics card. When you're ready for a sensible debate without sentiments, let me know.

Jingo-OAU:
tHE QUESTION THAT ALWAYS COMES TO MIND IS THAT IS IT VERY DIFFICULT FOR THE GOVERNMENT OF THE DAY TO APPPOINT A TECHNOCRAT AS THE MINISTER OF AVIATION?

How i wish a time is gonna come when Nigeria will have a pilot or aeronautic engineer as minister of aviation, then Nigeria can enter the dreamland of wonders where security and safety is the order of the day.

moderately, Stella Oduah has tried her best by elevating and reconstructing already decayed infrastructures in our airports. That aside, aviation watchword should be SAFETY AND SECURITY which is damn lacking upto this present moment.

I was innundated that our minister of aviation has arrogated to herself the power to issue license to airlines thereby, eroding the statutory functions of NCAA, acting as watchdog and independent organisation.....Is that suppose to be so?

Eziokwu? So a hunter is in charge of NCAA? A farmer calls the shots at NAMA? A vulcanizer is the head of FAAN? Are these not some of the key agencies that have the statutory responsibility of managing specific aspects of the aviation sector, while the ministry merely provides oversight and supervision?

In any case, the succession of "professor doctors" that have been in charge of the Ministry of Health over the years, have they turned our hospitals to wonder lands? Have the succession of "erudite" professors that served as ministers of education over the years transformed the education sector to paradise?

All over the world, ministers are often political appointees who serve as generalists rather than specialists. For instance, what background did Hillary Clinton have in diplomacy and international relations that qualified her for appointment as Secretary of State? What about Condi Rice? Did she have a background in intelligence or security matters to qualify her for appointment as NSA during Bush Jnr's first term in office?

Let us leave Stella alone, and focus on what is important. Our attention should focus squarely on FOLA AKIN, the SPECIALIST in charge of NCAA, whose responsibility it is to ensure the safety of airlines operating in Nigeria. I know some nincompoops here would prefer to leave him out of the discourse because his name appeals to their tribal and parochial sensibilities.

If they are not demanding for the sack of Okonjo Iweala, it will be dat of Ihejirika, next is Madueke, they av started attacking Stella Odua, yet they are blind when it comes to hausas or their people. The IG recently promoted some ranks to DIG and AIG and 98% of them are hausas no igbo among the promoted, yet there was no outcry bc he is not igbo whereas the immigration woman was sacked for something similar to this. I dont know why these our noisy neighbours across the niger are becoming a torn in d flesh for igbos? Ajo afo!

Chima_Adeoye: All these useless Yoruba/ APC bigots.

In all of Nigeria's history even when Ministers like Fani Kayode licensed planes for their girlfriends to fly airline businesses, when was an Aviation Minister ever asked to resign because of an aircrash? But because Madam Stella Oduah is Igbo, now she must resign, even when NCAA and not the minister is responsible for licensing planes.

If they are not doing their campaign of calumny against Dr. Okonjo Iweala,it will be against Diezani K. Alison-Madueke or Stella Otti.

Why not ask Omobola Johnson, Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade, Mrs. Olajumoke Akinjide, Akinwumi Adeshina and Olusegun Aganga to resign for their lacklustre performance in government?

Anyhow, like Okonjo Iweala told them recently " I serve at the pleasure of the President who appointed me and who shall relieve me of the appointment when my performance falls below his expectation" Simply put, SORRY, I WILL NOT RESIGN FOR SHAMELESS TRIBALISTS AND BIGOTS!
grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

I completely concur with your analysis. Nigeria is a place where we like to intimidate women and God save them if they are Igbo women who cannot be protected under the cover of Islam. Some of the women you mentioned as Mrs. Omobola Johnson and Mrs. Olajumoke Akinjide are so docile in GEJ cabinet that i have never heard their names. But of course, their brother bigots will not ask for their resignation for docility.

USA has the strictest and safest aviation standard in the world. Infact, before American registered planes and airlines can fly directly to any airport in the world or another country's airlines such as Nigeria's ARIK can fly into the USA,they have to be meticulously scrutinized and certified by a panel of aviation experts from America. When planes from these US certified airlines crash,it is documented in the US aviation authorities to determine if that airline should lose its certification to fly into the USA. But have all these scrutiny completely stopped planes from crashing in America? Hell NO! Of course it helped reduce the number of such incidents.

Within the period Princess Oduah have been Minister, less aircrashes have occured than when Fani Kayode or even Olusegun Agagu himself were aviation Ministers in this same Nigeria! The NCAA is the agency that over see the day to day safety of all the airplanes that fly in Nigeria and should recommend the withdrawal of the license of any airline that does not meet their criteria. The NCAA Boss should be fired by the Minister for apparently allowing the Agagu family to charter a plane which was said to be on test flight!

Just a quick look at the crashes recorded by American REGISTERED AIRLINES which have crashed either inside the USA or on trip outside the USA and you will understand that inspite of the best efforts by human beings, only God can truly save any machine from mal-functioning. Those crashes have not deterred our useless senators from flying to America daily and boarding flight there jumping from city to city!

We really do not need to tribalize this issue. We've had too many fatal mishaps during Stella's term and instead of hearing sober pronouncements and her comprehensive plan for improving air transportation safety, we hear unapologetic comments from her.

I think the President needs to do the right thing and replace her.

Impeachment can come if the president has violated the laid down rules as stipulated in the constitution or has performed below par and the aviation ministry is under his purview. So, if you blame the Aviation minister, why not the president? Why Odua and not the NCAA boss? The NCAA was created for a particular purpose which makes it not directly under the Aviation ministry.

Ngwakwe: Stop this unbiased claim, my foot. Every statement in Nairaland has its tribal angles and so is the National Assembly.

The question should be if protocols were breached by who and from whose office then to the top.

Did Stella Odua change the Safety guidelines put in place by her predecessors, whose function is it to implement and enforce those guidelines, did somebody in NCAA sidelined safety regulations to favour AA etc?

Without through investigation on what happened and who and who neglected their duties. All these blames and counter blames are political as well as tribal-istic

1. The over 200 deaths under her watch were Hausa, Ibo, Yoruba and everybody else s and God forbid another plane crash under her watch, it's still going to be a mixture of Hausa, Ibo, Yoruba. Plane crash has no respect for tribe, we all die together so your tribal fixation is just another crude, crass and daft utterances we get exposed to on NL.

2. Regardless of your bogus NCAA excuse, it's still irrelevant because NCAA is under her command and she's still directly responsible for their actions.

3. Like one of the senators said, people resign right away in sane places investigation or no investigation, but not in Nigeria because everything is a do or die proposition with zero consideration for our lives..

4. What's the investigation going to show? That she did her job because she made sure the plane was fit to fly and the plane crashed really because it was an Act Of God? Is this what the investigation is going to show?

Sec5: Calling for her resignition is not the best thing to do now.She should be encouraged to focus on safety now she has achieved a feat in aesthetics.Reason being that majority of ex-aviation ministers neither made any impact on infrastructural upgrading of the airports nor guaranteed air safety. Now that we have someone who is able to perform in one aspect as attested to by the senators, let us encourage her to fix the safety issues

How on earth will a plane mishap be blamed on God and u want nigerians to keep quiet? What is the no 1 priority of MR president himself if not the protection of lives and property of the populace.
What is the major reason why she is occupying that position if not to ensure safety and modalities in the aviation sector. If according to the senate..about 7 aviation accident (some avoided) had been recorded under two yrs then I don't think she has any idea on how to move the tide forward..

The worst 2 and a half years in Nigeria's aviation history shoud be enough to make a change in leadership of that ministry. It does not have to be a sack. She could resign gracefully or be reassigned by the President.
