Lagos-badagry Expressway To Be Closed On Sunday by arcis: 7:25am On Oct 11, 2013
The Lagos State Government says the Badagry-bound carriageway on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway will be closed for five hours on Sunday.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, said this in a statement on Wednesday.

Opeifa said the closure was necessary as part of efforts to deliver the first phase of the Blue Line Rail Project.

He advised motorists and other road users to make use of alternative routes to avoid traffic delays.

He said, “The contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, will be installing pre-cast beams for the pedestrian bridge to take commuters into the rail station at Mile 2 and across the road.

“The Badagry-bound carriageway on the Lagos Badagry Expressway will be closed to traffic between 7am and 12 noon on Sunday, October 20, 2013 to enable the contractor to install the beams.

“We appeal for caution and cooperation from all road users to obey all traffic regulations and ensure traffic flow during the period of closure. We are working with relevant Lagos State agencies to ensure free flow of traffic.”

Almost there

Steadily but surely, we are delivering Nigeria's first modern rail network

This is the first of many and we will continue to develop our region and leave legacies that our children and their children will be proud of.

This is just a publicity stunt by the LASG to give Nigerians impression that they are working. How on earth should installing precast beams for a pedestrian bridge amount to a closure of road with newspaper advertorials? Before now, how are the several beams for flyovers and pedestrian bridges litred all over Nigeria and expecially Lagos installed?

Finally, we're getting there.
I wish to see a blue line rail linking Ibadan and Lagos, Lagos and Abuja, cross-river and Lagos, borno and Lagos, port-hacourt and Abuja, Kaduna...

What part of Lagos-Badagry expressway please? I hope the closure is not going to extend from Maza Maza to Iyana Iba because that side of the road is still under road construction.

At Ijebu-Ode, I see a huge flyover bridge running across the ever busy Shagamu - Ore expressway but that road was never shut to traffic neither was any adverts placed on national dailies. The LASG promised to deliver the Blue Rail almost two years ago and with the barrage of criticisms it is receiving now wants to cause an effect to give impression that it is top of the situation

You just feel like talking, abi?

Do you want cranes assembling large precast beams with traffic driving underneath them running the risk of one of the beams dropping and killing people below??..........Or people should all of a sudden drive into closed roads and the construction workers will have to constantly explain to commuters that they are installing pre-cast beams

That is a large construction site and many things are going on at the same time.

In every civilised country, advance warning or notice are given to citizens, due to the nature of work to be done. You as a citizen should be very grateful for the advance notice to help you plans your day. However, are you complaining or making sadistic remark?

Nonsense. Name me another country where a contractor would be allowed to shut down an expressway to do anything....even to resurface the expressway. Now this one is shutting it down to install beams? How was it done before? Why didn't they build a detour/temporary road for traffic to get around that location? How can the authorities allow this? Would they even think aboit doing that in China? This just makes one think what are the terms of their contract. This is a slap in the face of all Nigerians. But after all...I don't blame them...I blame the ones that allow them to do that and disrespect Nigerians in Nigeria.

Those are precast beams that are going to cross over the service lane of the badagry bound expressway, Lagos state government have done the right thing in closing dis section of the expressway, coz dere is no where in the world dat vehicles would be allowed to pass through under this condition, its a shame dat d government are warning ahead and even trying to publicize through d media and yet people are complaining, this is an international route, if d lagos state government have not done dis, its still dis same morons dat would come out to complain, d road is going to b closed for 5hrz and we are alredi been warned ahead. Dis. Is world class,

Have you heard of anything called safety or safe work environment, FYI that projects such as this with humongous section erections and assembly require diversions

Hello? I can't believe a nairalander with wide eyes open (or shut ) could be talking this way(no wonder). If an accident occurs in the lifting of the beams and someone dies or gets injured you wil start calling for the head of BRF. A course in safety will do you good this time, then you'l honourably withdraw this reckless" PDP/MUMU styled" statement. SMH.. Ok you are free to pass there na...
