Going by the Historical Account, The Regional
Administration Tripod of Nigeria in the early 60's
rested on Ibadan,Kaduna and Enugu.
However, the reality now is that while Kaduna and
Enugu has been recognized as a State, IBADAN is yet
to enjoy that deserved Status, which she has
consistently desired. Right from the Western Region
Days, IBADAN reputed to be the Largest Indigenous
City in Africa, South of Sahara, has been the Capital
and Centre of Administation. By all rational
Consideration, IBADAN which was undoubtedly the
Largest of the three(3) should have been created as a
State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria like Kaduna
and Enugu.
It is unfortunate that while IBADAN Comtemporaries in
the early days of Representative Gonernance have
since gained the status of Autonomous States namely
Kaduna and Enugu, our Own City IBADAN which by
Comparison has always been the most Viable, is today
no more than a State Capital. Many People ascribed
this to Criminal Marginalization of IBADAN by the
power that be. But I have good reasons to disagree
with those views, what was responsible was the
Trademark of IBADAN Complacency. At a time when
State Creation was been Proliferated all over the
Country by the Military and States been given out
almost as a gifts to their Friends and those who walk
along the Corridors of Power, Some of our highly Placed
Indigenes who were at the seat of Power and others
whose Friendship with the Military Top Brass were
Legendary, saw the demand for the Creation of
"IBADAN STATE" as Unnecessary Agitation and a
needless Exertion of Energy and Misdirection of Effort.
The Trademark of IBADANLAND has been Complacency
and Disunity. Many good things have eluded us in the
past because we could not speak with One Voice. But
now that a new spirit of understanding and
togetherness is unfolding towards achieving a common
goal. The Punishment for our Complacency is that
while others achieved Creation of State on the Platter
of Gold, we in IBADAN now have to seek State Creation
through very Strigent and Rigorous Constitutional
Procedure.
At this Juncture, Let me remind you particularly those
who are not conversant with Provisions of the 1999
Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that we
required 2/3 Majority approval of the 36 States of
Nigeria, Before a Bill for the Creation of a New State
can be Passed. This will entail movement to all parts of
the Country to canvass support which will be
predicated on goodwill. It is definitely a Tall Order, but
to me Creation of "IBADAN STATE" is achievable with
the God on our Side. The Obstacles on our way are
surmountable, "Where there is a will, There will be
always be a way".
Few years back, The Central Council of Ibadan Indigene
(CCII) and other Notable Ibadan Elders took a giant
Stride by making a trip to the National Assembly for
the Submission of the Memorandum making a demand
for the Creation of "IBADAN STATE" marked the new
beginning of this new Spirit. It was a glorious day for
IBADANLAND, for the first time in the Comtemporary
History, IBADAN paraded a Formidable and Highly
Intimidating team in the pursuit of a common goal. The
Journey towards "IBADAN STATE" Creation has just
begun. and it is my hope whenever the CCII beckons,
we shall all respond positively.
WHY THE CLARION CALL (Facts beyond
Rheteorics)
The Proposed IBADAN STATE, which Comprises
Eleven (11) Local Government has a Population of
2,550,993 according to the 2006 Population Census
Pleminary Figures, Published in the Federal Republic of
Nigeria Gazette No24, Volume 94 of May 2007, which
is 45.61% of that of the Present Oyo State which is
5,591,589.
However, this Population of the proposed IBADAN
STATE is more than that of each of the following eight
( States of the Federation namely: Bayelsa, Ebonyi,
Ekiti, Gombe, Kwara, Nasarawa, Taraba and Yobe State.
Furthermore, as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution,
the Existing eleven (11) Local Goverment in Ibadan is
an acceptable number. For Example, Some of the
existing States in the Federation have a number of
Local Governments that are Less than or Equal to, or
Comparable to that of the proposed IBADAN STATE
namely:
i. Bayelsa (8LGA's)
ii. Gombe(11LGA's)
iii. Ebonyi (13LGA's)
iv. Nasarawa (13LGA's)
v. Zamfara (14LGA's)
The Proposed "IBADAN STATE" has abundant Human
Resources to run its Administration.
It is therefore, with a high sense of responsibility that i
hereby lend my voice to the support of all interested
group that are constitutionally empowered to process
and promote new States Creation in this Democratic
Dispensation. Let the great IBADANLAND be carved out
of the present Oyo State and created to " IBADAN
STATE" of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to the glory
of God and for the sake of Equity, Justice, Peaceful Co-
existence, Socio-economic Development and
purposeful search for the progress Nationwide.
Creation of IBADAN STATE is a dear project that
concerned all Ibadan Indigene, Friends of Ibadan,
Artisans, Market Men & Women, Students,
Proffessionals, Traders, Business Associates, Religious
Leaders as well as Traditional Rulers.
Am using this medium to appeal to the various
authorities concerned to give IBADANLAND its long
overdue Status, which is IBADAN STATE of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria.

Long Live FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA.

Your facts and concerns is genuine! The same applies to IJEBU STATE. But at this peak, creation of state is not the primary issue. All we clamour for now is breakup.
