KANO—The Kano State Government said yesterday it was studying the reported revocation of a plot of land allocated to the state governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, by the Federal Capital Territory, over alleged misapplication.

A top official of the administration, who spoke to Vanguard in confidence, said it was unheard of in the history of the FCT that a minister would single-handedly embark on revocation of plots properly allocated to allottees without any infraction.

The official, who did not want to be named, pointed out that it was also wrong for the FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, to revoke plots of some targeted governors while they were away on religious pilgrimage.

The official said: “As we speak, my governor is outside the country and no notification has been given to him or any official of the Kano State Government on why it became imperative for the FCT to revoke the plot duly allocated to the governor.

“We are seriously disturbed by the way the FCT minister is politicising the issue of land allocation and revocation just to be seen as being supportive of his paymasters.

“What we are seeing is nothing more than what el-Rufai calls kindergarten administration and it is becoming clear to all that the action is politically motivated and not driven by any altruistic motive.

“We challenge the FCT administration to publish what the governor has done to warrant the revocation of his plot if the motive is not politically induced.

Revocation of Kwankwaso’s 2,500-square metre plot is coming on the heels of the closure of the Adamawa Governor’s Lodge, also in the urbane Maitama District of Abuja, where most powerful and influential Nigerians live and do business.

Although the FCT has sought to defend the action, many see it as a vendetta against the G7 governors, who took up issues against the leadership of the ruling People’s Democratic Party and broke away from the party on August 31, 2013.
