Noted! I would be able to educate any woman I come across going through this. Many of them are ignorant about it. |

@topic: I had post partum depression after the birth of my first child. It was quite severe. I felt sad and hopeless. I stopped eating and lost a lot of weight. Unfortunately, my husband and my mum did not understand and got impatient with me. In my case it lasted until I resumed work after three months. Post partum depression is deadly and very real. I wish more relatives will understand that it's not that the new mum is acting out. I just remember feeling like life was not worth living. 1 Like |

Oh, I also remember that it got worse after my mum left and I was all alone. I watched seasons 1 - 4 of Desperate Housewives then. It kept me from going over the edge. I think engaging in some form of leisure/pastime helps. It gives you something to focus on and helps distract from the problem. 1 Like |

ohemm: Wow!!! You know in Africa there's a lot of expectations from the woman and what some people fail to realise is the context at which such could be applied. Imagine if your husband helped by doing the cooking, some relatives will see it as him doing your responsibilities despite your conditions. I think the delivery specialists owe it to the new mom to call whoever will be the caregiver and enlighten them on this. The husband in particular should be spoken to because he'll be the link between his spouse and others. 1 Like |

postpartum depression is an example of a postpartum mental health disorder. Other examples include postpartum blues and postpartum psychosis. It is important to know which one is affecting you as it can be diagnosed when you see a doctor at the hospital. Psychotherapy and antidepressants may help overcome postpartum depression. |

Post partum depression is real, and I don't thinknits being spoken about enough. Do you know what it feels like to lose interest in the things that bring you joy normally, not being able to look at your partner the same way and what about your little bundle of joy that you carried for 9 good months and couldn't wait to meet and carry? It's the worst feeling ever and as usual people don't understand. They'll say you don't have maternal instincts and it just leaves your other children and partner just confused as to what is going on. Well my people it's all just a chemical reaction and for some people it goes away without any assistance from anyone and for some of us we need medical intervention. Yes I said we because I experienced it with my last child and thank the Lord that I have a good support system and I was helped. Most people are not so lucky. I'm here to tell you that the help you need I here and it wont cost you the earth to talk to a doctor and get diagnosed. With outpost Health, You can do all of that without leaving your house. All you need is your phone. You can reach a doctor, have your sample collected for investigation and even get drugs prescribed and delivered to your doorstep. Yup all of this with just your phone. So take the first step to getting better by downloading the app and registering. Outpost Health is the app. |
