As with all other cuisines that have international appeal, a cuisine will have to adapt to local/popular/global taste buds. Go to China, and you will observe most foods you consider Chinese cuisine are either unpopular, unrecognizable or laughed at because you went to China and asked for Chow Mein . Ever eaten Glutinous rice? Is that ever popular outside of the Chinese community? 2 Likes |

Afam4eva: Nigerian that doesn't export toothpick wants to export dishes. Even the Nigerian restaurants abroad mostly target Nigerians and some Africans. It's not until you sell your brand that people will patronize you. Why do some of you feel you have to insult the nation with every comment or issue? It's pathetic. Nigeria produces and exports a whole lot more complicated items than stupi.d ''toothpicks'' as any visit to a Ghanaian, Ivorien or Senegalese market will show you. Do you know we export paint, chemicals, motor-parts, perfumes, aluminium products, tyres and tubes, furniture, adhesives, among other high value items? Try and move around and learn a few things about your country instead of typing retar.ded crap about ''toothpicks''. 2 Likes |

Mamacita007: For example, our fried rice is just like regular Chinese combination rice with peas, green beans & minced meatchinese fried rice is richer and taste alot better than Nigerian fried rice. Especially the chinese fried rice stewed with jumbo prawns. yummy |

Until Nigerians start eating these weird animals so as, lizard, cocroach, spider, grasshopper, just as the Chinese do, we won't get inertnational recognition. Op thank me later!... |

Rossikk:Your comment should not be surprising to anyone. Even if satan stands up tomorrow to say Nigeria is moving forward, i can count on it that you'll tell satan "Oga, you're spot on". When are we going to start telling ourselves the truth. Why must you always tell lies to make Nigeria seem to be what it's not? 1 Like |

Nigerian restaurants outside Nigeria are just expensive. Why should I spent $10 for a meal, and still need to drink 2 cups of water to fill the gap in my stomach, while the Chinese buffet is 5.99 all you can eat 3 Likes |

Afam4eva: I'm not surprised you think that Nigeria exporting manufactured items is ''a lie''. Have you ever stepped out of your comfort zone into anywhere in Africa? I can swear you've never visited ANY country in Africa. You know zilch. So keep quiet and be educated by those of us who move around. Even in LONDON you have Nigerian manufactured items everywhere, especially beer, stout, textiles, processed foods, etc. How much less places like Ghana where their markets are filled with Nigerian made clothes, shoes, noodles, spare parts etc etc. And you're here talking ignorant rubbish about ''toothpicks''? Why don't you go out and learn something?? The world doesn't and start and end in your narrow circle of malcontents. 1 Like |

Afam4eva: Dude I am too old to lie. This is why I say you need to leave your comfort zone in Naija and travel out. THEN you will know the impact and influence of Nigeria, something you grotesquely underestimate. Here's a piece on Nigerian Guinness, our ODEKU, sold openly in some of the biggest stores in the UK: http://www.beer-pages.com/2009/12/nigerian-guinness-in-tesco.html |
Re: Why Is Nigerian Food Not As Popular As Chinese? by lokzie: 12:07am On Oct 26, 2013 |
There's your answer. Close the thread sage_: The reason is not far fetch. 1.3 billion Chinese, 150 million Nigerians including animals(legend have it that they get counted in the northern part of the country). |
Re: Why Is Nigerian Food Not As Popular As Chinese? by Afam4eva(m): 12:08am On Oct 26, 2013 |
Rossikk:What quantity of these Guinness beers are sold in the UK and i hope you're aware that Guiness is a multinational company and not a Nigerian company. When you find shops in the UK where Alabukun is being sold, let me know...Meanwhile, no one can be too old to lie. Infact, just like wines, the older the better. You're a lying legend |
Re: Why Is Nigerian Food Not As Popular As Chinese? by Rossikk(m): 12:23am On Oct 26, 2013 |
Afam4eva: First it was ''Nigeria does not export ordinary toothpicks''. After that's been shown to be beer parlour rubbish, you then as ''what quantity is sold there?'' Evebn it is one bottle a tyear sold there it destroys your argument. You then emerged with ''oh it is a multinational company''. A load of absolute rubbish of course, because a country's exports are a country's exports, regardless of who 'owns' the companies manufacturing those exports, and secondly because Guinness Nigeria is a NIGERIAN company which is only a subsidiary to a UK firm. Also, Star and Gulder can be found in the UK as well. so your argument holds zero water. Excerpts: Beer: Gulder Brewed In: Lagos, Nigeria Brewery: Nigerian Breweries PLC First Brewed: 1970 Type: Pale Lager Abv: 5.2% Serving: Bottle (600ml) Purchased: Costcutter (London) Price: £2.29 http://abarwithnoname./2013/04/24/gulder-lager-nigeria/ 1 Like |

Rossikk:Maybe you'll tell us that foreigners visiting google.com.ng is also a form of exporting. These products are seen as what they are and that is their brand name and not the country the particular product was produced. Like i said, let me know when Alabukun starts selling big time in UK and the US. |

Re: Why Is Nigerian Food Not As Popular As Chinese? by Rossikk(m): 12:30am On Oct 26, 2013 |
Afam4eva: For goodness sakes, Gulder and Star are MANUFACTURED BY NIGERIAN BREWERIES PLC!!!! They are available for sale at shops in the UK AS PROVEN. Your claim is defeated. Why don't you shut up and move on?? What the hell is wrong with you? What is this crap about Alabukun? Your inferiority complex stinks. 1 Like |

Rossikk:I thought we were talking about Guiness as opposed to Gulder and Star. Just tell us about an authentic Nigerian product that's selling big team all over the world or at least in some parts of the world. I'm not disputing the fact that Nigeria may be exporting some of it's wares to neigboring West African countries but we're talking global. |
Re: Why Is Nigerian Food Not As Popular As Chinese? by Rossikk(m): 12:44am On Oct 26, 2013 |
Afam4eva: Your excuse for Nigerian Guinness being exported was that Guinness was ''a multinational company, not Nigerian''. That was why I posted evidence that Star and Gulder, made by Nigerian Breweries PLC is also available in UK shops. Or maybe Nigerian Breweries too is ''not Nigerian'' in your head. Just tell us about an authentic Nigerian product that's selling big team all over the world or at least in some parts of the world. Very soon you'll tell us that Shell Nigeria exportation is a sign that Nigerian products are being exported.[/quote] You are an economic illiterate. If Shell opens a petrochemical factory tomorrow and starts to mass produce for local and export markets, it means NIGERIA exports petrochemicals. South Africa is rated Africa's no 1 vehicle manufacturer and exporter. This is because Nissan and BMW have huge car plants there. Nobody says ''South Africa does not make or export vehicles, afterall it is Nissan and BMW who own the plants!!''. Even in the UK, German company BMW now OWNS Rolls Royce (formerly British-owned) and builds the cars in the UK and exports from there. No one says ''Ah! UK does not build or export Rolls Royce because it is Germans who now own Rolls Royce!'' Or ''the Nissan factory in UK which churns out cars for the local and export market does not mean Britain exports vehicles since it is the Japanese that own the plant!'' So please, stop embarrassing yourself by making such lousy comments regarding Nigerian manufacturing. 1 Like |

Mamacita007: you don't find mexican restaurants in europe like u find in the U.S; mexican food is popular in the U.S cos of close proximity n then they commercialize/americanize/franchise stuff like taco bells n johns dat gets out n smh @ comparing nigeria to china...not only has china like 2 billion ppl, they're also known for their food business like igbos are known for trade; most chinese travel abroad just to work in chinese restaurants |
Re: Why Is Nigerian Food Not As Popular As Chinese? by Afam4eva(m): 12:50am On Oct 26, 2013 |
Rossikk:You're the one who's ignorant. Are you aware that there's a difference between a Chinese made product and a "Made in China" product? While the latter is a product made in China by just about anyone. I think General Motors now have a factory in China(or so i think). But that does not take away the fact that it is still an American product. A Chinese made product is one that originates from China and is manned mainly by Chinese people in China. Maybe if Dangote opens a factory in London, it will automatically become a UK company. Shioor. |
Re: Why Is Nigerian Food Not As Popular As Chinese? by Rossikk(m): 12:55am On Oct 26, 2013 |
Afam4eva: You're talking absolute garbage. Go and learn economics and stop embarrassing yourself with this beer parlour reasoning. The business world does not differentiate between the nationalities/racial origin of staff when stating if a country manufactures this item or that. Such reasoning occurs only in your ''I am black and therefore worthless'' head. If an item is manufactured in a country, regardless of who does it, then that country is a manufacturer and exporter of the said item. QED. Anything else at variance with this fact is high school dropout stuff which I really can't be bothered to entertain. 2 Likes |

Re: Why Is Nigerian Food Not As Popular As Chinese? by Rossikk(m): 1:01am On Oct 26, 2013 |

Rossikk:I think you're blowing hot air cos it has no bearing on what we're discussing. You're implying that since a company is located in Nigeria and exports products, it then implies that the product in question is a Nigerian product. Are you aware that Shell Nigeria is a subsidiary of Shell and is a Dutch/British company? Do you know what a multi-national company is? |
Re: Why Is Nigerian Food Not As Popular As Chinese? by Rossikk(m): 1:06am On Oct 26, 2013 |
Afam4eva: OF COURSE IT IS A NIGERIAN PRODUCT. ANY ITEM MADE IN NIGERIA IS A NIGERIAN PRODUCT!!!! GET THAT INTO YOUR HEAD!!! Why are you anti-knowledge? You are reasoning like a village-raised guy! Are you aware that Shell Nigeria is a subsidiary of Shell and is a Dutch/British company? Do you know what a multi-national company is? My friend I think you need to return to school. Go and ask your mates if they know what a multinational is. |
