2013 Abuja Int'l Motor Fair: Compare Car Brands. by Ikenna351(m): 10:10pm On Oct 28, 2013

I went to make an enquiry at Head of Service, Central Area, Abuja, few weeks ago. On my way out, the above caught my attention on the Eagle Square entrance. That was when it occurred to me that I missed the 2012 one, though, but didn't miss the 2011. Right there, I decided to visit the fair when it starts.

On Saturday, 26/10/2013, I decided it was time. I got there at 12: 55pm in my SV D9, as you can see in the attached image below, where I parked in the Square.

I walked Straight to Peugeot Stand, where I knew I would find them, since it was the same spot they occupied in 2011.

Of course, I saw other car brands before I got to Peugeot brand. But they were not the reason I went there. tongue

Peugeot 508 Allure

The 508 Allure has THP 1.6 Litre Turbo Engine, with 156 bhp. It comes with 6-speed Auto transmission or 6-speed manual tranny. The manual tranny gives about 4,7 L/100 km, while auto tranny gives about 5,3-5,5 L/100 km. Impressive, isn't it?

I sat in the car and felt I was somewhere else. Very comfy! The seat felt so good. It's a keyless start. That is, it has start button instead. All you need is to have the plip with you in your pocket, touch the start button and woorah! The engine was running before I could ask the Peugeot guy what next. To lock the car, all you need is to step out, with the plip with you in your pocket or wherever on you, just touch the outside door handle. I mean touch your palm and not pull. The 4 doors and the boot will just lock themselves up, just like pressing the conventional lock remote plips. Wonderful!

Oh! The handbrake is electric. Just a button, press it and the 2 rear wheels will just lock.

The car I was testing has 6-speed auto-manual tranny. Operating the manual side of it is not on the steering wheel, rather, on the same gear lever. If you want to do spirited driving, all you need to do is to shift it to manual section, then, you can now shift up or down, similar to how we shift the manual, only that its clutchless.

Did I forget to mention that it has economy stop and start function? When you get to a traffic light or meet a static traffic jam, the engine will automatically switch itself off to save fuel and would start again on the traffic starts moving. Hmm!

I could go on and on, but I really enjoyed seating in that car, testing all the techs the car offer. Find the test car on the stand below:

Price: 8.5m

I was there too. The 508 is pretty and nice. Decent and truly alluring. However, that thing they called 301 is a huge disappointment! I found it very hard to believe that a 1.2ltr 3 cylinder car can be shipped to Nigeria in the name of emerging market. No, no, no. I will rather go buy a used 09 Accord with my N3M than that car.

Peugeot 508 Active

The 508 Active also comes with the 1.6 L THP turbo engine, with 156 bhp. The Allure is more equipped than the Active model. For example, the Active has the conventional handle brake handle, key switch and plip, etc.

Price: 7.5m

Peugeot 301 Access; New Product

Here comes the newly introduced Peugeot product in the market: 301. The 301 Access comes with 3 cylinder engine and 5-speed manual, also have auto transmission. This is good option for Peugeot lovers/fans that are scared of V6. Lol! Its designed for people that want to go as economical as they can.

When I sat behind the wheel, I was surprised how comfortable I felt on the seat, considering my height. The leg room is good enough. It has almost the size of 307 Sedan, if not bigger.

Price: 2.950m

Leaving Peugeot Stand

Now, which one interest you? The pics are there to make your choice, for one you can afford purchase to enjoy. Am not an SUV or Crossover fellow, rather, a Saloon person. If I would afford to buy one, the 508 would be my pick, without blinking. At least, the 156 bhp is good enough hp to serve both city driving and motorway Lion. My other Lions are there to serve their purposes as well. By the way, I succeeded in leaving the Peugeot stand with a 508 Brochure (thanks to the ASD guys, even though I fired them with series of questions. Lol!). Not a bad visit, after all!

Before I forget, they also had Peugeot Expert in their stand. Price is 6.50m.

The only sad face I find in those Lions is lack of Navigation screens, while am very certain the Euro specs have the screen. I wonder why they wouldn't give us gadgets, just like they give the Euro markets? Because, even if Navigation doesn't work in Nigeria, there are other things one can do with the Navigation screen.

So, I decided to peep in other stands to see what they displayed. So, this will interest the non Peugeot fans or the Peugeot haters. Lol!

Enjoy!

Talk for yourself. You are not the only one in this world. Some people value what you dont value.

mehhn, Peugoet need to change their design engineers. Terrible design for 2014... are u kidding me? The only car I like here is the 508, but then match it against a 2014 Camry, Accord or Maxima? I will choose the Japos. 301 vs 2014 corolla? No contest, can't even match the Yaris. 3008 vs Rav 4? No contest. 4008 vs Highlander? U dey maddt?

Nice one Ikenna, the new benz "A" class caught my eye. Sadly VW only displayed machineries.
