Kano govt signs MoU with Chinese firm on metroline

Gov. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State
Kano state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese firm, CCECC, for the construction of a modern intra city railway system in Kano city.

The state Commissioner for Works, Abba Kabir Yusuf, signed for the state government while Mr. Chao signed for the company.

Speaking shortly after the brief occasion at the council chambers of the Government House in Kano, the state governor, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, said the agreement is for the company to send engineers to commence the project design.

He stated that when completed, the railway will ease transportation in the state capital, which is presently challenged by traffic congestion.

The governor expressed optimism that barring any unforeseen developments, the state government planned to start at least one railway line by 2015, when the tenure of his administration expires.

On his part, the Managing Director of CCECC Nigeria, Mr. Chao, told the governor that his company is handling a range of large scale civil engineering works in Nigeria, including sections of the Nigeria Railway Modernisation Project.
