Nigeria Would Have Disintegrated But For Prayers — Jonathan by JECBOSS: 8:51am On Nov 11, 2013
President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday said Nigeria would have disintegrated but for the prayers of the church and other religious bodies.

The President was speaking at the 2013 Jubilee Word Festival and 26th anniversary of the Word of Live Bible Church (WLBC) in Warri, Delta State, hosted by the church founder and President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ayo Oritsejafor.

Reading the first Bible lesson from Psalm 106, Mr. Jonathan declared that “but for the prayers of the church, this country would probably have gone into oblivion”.

He urged Nigerians not to relent in their prayers adding that prayers have helped to strengthened the unity of the country. He also noted that nation building is a task for all citizens.

Mr. Jonathan said the government was doing all it could to address the security situation in the country, adding that “this terrorism will end in Nigeria and God’s everlasting superior powers will prevail and overcome”.

Reiterating that there would be no compensation for victims of Boko Haram insurgency, the President assured Nigerians that government would work out how the victims could be adequately assisted.

Earlier, Mr. Oritsejafor commended the President for setting up the committee on National Conference adding that the conference would make the nation stronger and more united.

While commending the security agencies in their efforts to tackle the insecurity in the country, the cleric said that more intelligence gathering should be done by the agencies.

Mr. Oritsejafor asked the federal government to provide adequate assistance to victims of the Boko Haram insurgency if there would be no compensation for them. He said the victims have gone through agonising experiences having lost family and property in the Boko Haram attacks.

He urged the government to set up a Boko Haram committee to ensure adequate assistance to the victims, and expressed hope that the security challenge in the country would soon be over.

The cleric also appealed to religious leaders to preach peace, religious tolerance, and hope for a better Nigeria.

The Jubilee Word Festival with the theme, ‘Recover All’, also marks the 26th anniversary of the Church, as well as Mr. Oritsejafor’s birthday.

Prayers were offered for the progress and unity of Nigeria by christian leaders present at the event.

Apart from Mr. Jonathan, three state governors were in attendance at the program. They are Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Jonah Jang (Plateau), and Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta).

The prayers should involve God Almighty destroying all the wicked, cruel and corrupt rulers and officials in Nigeria's landscape.

agbameta: what a disgrace and embarrassment...

How do you mean?
Fault him or just keep quiet instead of raining unfounded insults.

The hard truth is that Christians and their prayers have kept Nigeria "one"!
Some of us are now praying differently and Nigeria will surely break!

And that change will bring about the destruction of the lie called Nigeria!
The man is a fool for saying the truth?

You can run away from the truth but the truth remains firm!

But majority of those agitating for a breakup are the Christians. So how could you claim kudos on an issue you so wished didn't happen?
Is it that Aritsejafor is so comfortable with what GEJ is doing to the masses who's tites he is using to live large and dressing like a rascal?
But the custodians of the truth used to be the elders/religious leaders. So what do we have now?

Every smart person knows that what has kept the country together so far is the post-Civil War consensus with which the elite have shared this country's oil revenues.

None, I repeat NONE of the country's elite want a break-up of Nigeria, not while oil is still flowing from the Niger Delta.

Nigeria's existence will be truly threatened when oil begins to run out.

Mr President is wrong here.

Meanwhile, I think Jonathan should reduce the number of pronouncements he makes from the pulpit.

I know he needs to appeal to his (mostly religious) constituency, but this is getting too much. He's polarizing the country further with the number of religious programmes he's attending these days.

Mr President, please tone down.

Dear President Jonathan!
It is imperative for you to know that, playing with God, is like playing with fire.
you just can't be eating #4billion food and be reading #1.6billion newspapers and expect God to be for you, when it is glaringly obvious that more than half of the populace are living below standard.

Rearrange your philosophies and let God take control.

stop being a hypocrite.

Thanks.
