BENIN—THE Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Youths
and Student Affairs, Mr. Jude Imagwe, weekend, described as unfair and untrue,
allegations that the Federal Government killed the late former President of the
Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Prof. Festus Iyayi.
Imagwu, shortly after he paid a condolence visit to the Iyayi family, said there
was no doubt that Nigerians were shocked by the accident which resulted in
Iyayi’s death, but that dragging the Federal Government into it “is quite
unfortunate because President Jonathan has been doing his best to ensure that
this ASUU strike was suspended.
“When you say government is to blame, it is like saying government has a right
to take someone’s life. It is God that gives life and knows the appointed time to
take life which is inevitable. And to also say that government is paying lip
service to education is not correct either. That we have not got to where we
need to get to in the educational sector, I will agree with you.
“Government is making progress gradually. Where we were yesterday is quite
different from where we are today. The current administration is giving all it can
and will continue to ensure that the educational sector is strengthened.”
He recalled the role played by Prof. Iyayi when he (Imagwe) was NANS
President in resolving disputes, which bordered on students’ welfare on
campuses, noting that Iyayi’s fatherly counsel would be missed.
“The late former president of ASUU was like a father to many of us who were
involved in student unionism.”

and how do we disconnect the FG from all of this? If the FG/gej had respected d pact it entered with the union in 2009, or if they hav done what they were supposed to do in d educational sector... do u think we'd be here talking about one prof who died in a 'fatal' car accident on his way to kano in d name of meeting of d union on how to end d strike?
After the marathon meeting with the president, if their demands were met, i don't think ASUU members hav to meet again b4 they can call off the strike, but that happened as a result of another watery offer frm d FG. I dnt believe anyone can take life, but God. We must also not forget that our actions and inactions cud cost some persons their lives.

Why? Ok this may not go down well with you, the death of Iyayi wouldn't have occurred if ASUU had adopted e-conference technology or do not have the caveman policy of no taking of flight for officers on duty during strike considering the state of our roads.

how do u xpekt them to have this when the members are not well equiped or up to date with whatever is 'latest' as far as educational innovations ar concerned. This is their agitation and d prof died agitating for better funding for education*sad*

® u people for real? Of cos both the FG and SG are to be blamed, but Not for the bloody reason u dummies ® puttin out, d roads are horrible the state Governors "Security team" or shuld I say "death squad" are a menace to d State and u people are here talking about ASUU strike, the thousands of lives dat has bin lost on our roads cos both the state and FG are too greedy to care don't matter anymore what matters is ASUU's BS. With this 1trillion Nigerians have just made few people more richer. ASUU strike has never bin about the Universities, or BH about Islam or the MEND about the people of ND is all about greed, power and selfishness. The man (may his soul RIP) died cos the roads are deathtrap n the SG escorts drove recklessly and should be persecuted for it not cos the man was the ex ASUU president but cos he was human and a Nigerian.
