1. Would you be willing to watch a well shot Nigerian movie at the cinema?

Yes, I would pay to watch good Nigerian movies in a Cinema. Watched 'I'll take my chances', 'Last Flight to Abuja' and ;True Citizens'. Why? I was willing to give Nollywood the benefit of doubt and besides Cinema tickets in Uyo are quite cheap. We started by paying N100 and now it's N250.
Did I enjoy these movies? No.Will I still be willing to give it a try if I see a compelling synopsis without the regular thigh and bosom showing casts? Perhaps.

2. How much would you be willing to pay to watch such movies since we all agree that N1,500 for cinema ticket prices is a rip off.

lipsrsealed
3. If you stay in certain high density areas in Lagos like Mushin, Ajegunle, Ikotun etc will you go to a cinema there?

Don't stay there

4. We intend to publicize these movies through social media. Will you willingly follow the exploits of the movie and its stars online?

Will the plot, budget, challenges etc also be online? If yes, sweet!

5. We intend to book cinema viewers through the internet/social media. Would you be willing to book a cinema seat online?

No

6. Would you want to pay for your cinema ticket online, through your phone, ATM card or with cash at the gate?

Cash at gate, plenty of time to change my mind grin

I'll pay 2 watch a nigerian movie if they reduce it to 200 naira. Its not fair to charge 1500 naira on a hollywood movie that was shot on a budget of more than $50million and charge the same 1500 on a Nigerian movie produced with a budget of 5million naira. If u want to rake in the same as hollywood movies, scale up d production and quality of ur movies. The disparity in the quality of hollywood and nollywood movies is very stark. We definitely shouldn't b forced to pay d same.

No I think the payment should be the other way round. The cinema should pay me to watch a Nigerian movie, a bucket of pop corn, a drink & and two tickets to see a real movie (free of charge) should suffice else, count me out.

I'd rather sleep than watch a Nigerian movie.

Stop comparing nollywood to hollywood. Compare nigerian movies to maybe indian in the 60s...

Hollywood no longer make movies.....its a movie empire.

This might sound a tad unpatriotic but my answer is a resounding NO! I haven't watched more than 10 nollywood "movies" in my lietime in d privacy of my house. I certainly won't pay to watch them. And Yes, I'm a regular cinema goer.
Re: Will You Pay To Watch A Nigerian Cinema Movie? by s4short: 10:40pm On Nov 26, 2013
of course yes, for about #1000, i also think the major challenge is the lack of cinemas in most parts of the country.
Re: Will You Pay To Watch A Nigerian Cinema Movie? by winteriscoming: 10:43pm On Nov 26, 2013
I will pay between 300 and 500. If the movie has very good reviews. I will not pay online tough unless some level of trust is built. Nope I will not follow the industry on social media ; no time.
Re: Will You Pay To Watch A Nigerian Cinema Movie? by safarigirl(f): 10:53pm On Nov 26, 2013
Yep. In fact, in 2011 i paid #1,500 to watch Guilty Pleasure...and there were at least 13 others watching with me. Certain Nigerians would pay to watch a good Naija movie. How else did Figurine and Ije gross as much as they did if people didn't watch? You just won't get as much of an audience as an foreign movie cuz a typical Nigerian would rather watch a poorly produced foreign movie than a Nigerian movie of world standards
Re: Will You Pay To Watch A Nigerian Cinema Movie? by safarigirl(f): 11:01pm On Nov 26, 2013
A foreign movie can always be downloaded for free online, but till today, I'm yet to find Ije or that Through the Glass by Stephanie Okereke online or even in the market. People paid 1k to watch Django Unchained when it came out, me, I balance for house, download am free, I've watched it over 5 times and it's still on my phone, same as Avatar. If I went to see it at a cinema, it would've cost me no less than 3k.

lynx200: As a scriptwriter and budding producer, I have noticed a disturbing trend. Most Nigerian movies that have been taken to the cinema in the last two years have hardly made the money invested in them which is driving away a lot of investors. At the typical Nigerian cinemas hardly anybody is ready to pay N1000 or more to watch a Nigerian movie that is not well publicized.(There are a few exceptions like "the meeting"wink Most cinema patronizers are from the upper middle and upper classes that turn up their noses at Nigerian movies whereas the true fans of these movies are in the high density areas. (Research have shown that Silverbird cinemas Uyo have the highest turnover for Nigerian movies)
Our company Dreamplay entertainment wants to show quality and cinema standard Nigerian movies in high quality venues in these low density areas (in multiple locations) starting with Lagos so we are doing some preliminary market research. Please answer the following questions as truthfully as possible.

1. Would you be willing to watch a well shot Nigerian movie at the cinema?
2. How much would you be willing to pay to watch such movies since we all agree that N1,500 for cinema ticket prices is a rip off.
3. If you stay in certain high density areas in Lagos like Mushin, Ajegunle, Ikotun etc will you go to a cinema there?
4. We intend to publicize these movies through social media. Will you willingly follow the exploits of the movie and its stars online?
5. We intend to book cinema viewers through the internet/social media. Would you be willing to book a cinema seat online?
6. Would you want to pay for your cinema ticket online, through your phone, ATM card or with cash at the gate?

Thank you for your anticipated response. If you have other questions you want to ask please let us know.

1. After my last experience watching a nigerian movie in SB Uyo, it would take a serious move for me to watch 1. Am a movie blogger/critic and i was appalled by what i saw in the movie Covert Operation. If the movie is as good as Mr & Mrs, den am good to go.

2. Can't pay 1,000 sef for 9ja film am sorry. 500 max. N/B 1500 is not a rip-off cuz outside the country it's quite expensive.

To the rest of ur questions, just buzz me at my blog, facebook page, twitter handle and i will be sure to see the movie. Cheers. My blog address is in my signature, twitter and FB handles are Dmoviereview. Cheers

I've seen both movies. They were good but then I still wouldn't pay to watch either @ d cinema. If they want me to part with my hard earned 1k or 1500 on their movies, they should give me movies worth that amount.

Nollywood needs a revolution. The market is there and not just 160million viewers, you have the entire sub-sahara market to satisfy. So the issue is not about watching it in a cinema but producing top-notch quality movies.

As Africans, it is sad that we let the Europeans tell our own stories and guess what they would only tell it to suit themselves.

Your project sounds exciting and I might be looking out for your movies (because you bragged) and if they are close to the recent bred of New Nigerian film makers, sorry I won't be seeing your movies again. However, if you intend to change the way we do movies, maybe I might join in the struggle.

Till then, I wish you the very best.

Stop comparing the price with what Americans pay. They're more opportuned and less inflated. We're just different economically.

Why i go pay 1500ngn to see a Nigerian movie just once when i can use same amount to charter 15 movies(1 per CD) 0r 150 movies(10 per CD) ? cheesy

I wasn't really a fan of home videos(Nollywood movie) until this faithful day when I went along with some friends to watch the premiere of 'Confusion Na Wa' I must admit it was fun tho and have watched two other home videos after that.to sum it all up,I love watching home videos at cinemas.

Nice thread. All i care is tell your company to come to Onitsha. There's a broadway Cinema no longer in use here. Your company could buy and refurbish. It's in between a high brow area and high density area. I don tire for beer parlor abeg.
I want parks and CINEMAS!
Yes, yes and yes to all the questions.
