Adaobi12: It is,ada means the first daughter. Though this days even the last borns answer ada. Obi,means a chief. Then Whats the correct meaning?
Afam4eva is actually correct. Obi also means compound and I have always known Adaobi to mean "first daughter of the compound". If I had a penny for every girl who answers Adaobi whose father is not a chief, I would be very rich.

In my place we dont call compound obi, remeba jst like in english language,we have homonyms so it is in igbo, uda elu,uda nsuda. And the rest. Obi means so many things. Obi-Heart
Obi-Chief,those from onitsha, will agree with me in this one
Obi-a meeting place in a compound. D same spelling, different pronounciation. I guess i was named Adaobi, because my late grand father is a chief.
