Yaradua had a meeting with ASUU personally.

No big deal in that. If the president can attend birthday ceremonies of CAN president, why won't he meet with ASUU?

The presenter did not say so. He said all effort to reach the ASUU president was futile and he mentioned they hope to get him on SUNRISE probably dis week.
It doesn't make much difference. Some of what I wrote so far might not be the exact words spoken during the programme but all in all, the meanings are the same.

Whether the ASUU president was invited and failed to show up or the ASUU president deliberately made himself unavailable are one and the same. If he had any important thing to say or clarification to make, why didn't he call in through Channelstv hotline while the programme was still on?

Bottomline, Channelstv wanted him on the show but he didn't show up. Simple!

I'm wondering where all those greedy state universities ASUU members stands now, cos FG didn't even recognize them as ASUU members talkless of giving damn about them...they frivolously denied their students right to education for 5months in the name of 'sympathy strike'. What a nefarious act.

This is where I would agree that the strike being politicized, if not what are the state governors waiting for? Can't they order their employees back to work?

Iaz93: Someone should tell this girl that 60% voted for the strike to end. PLEASE!
they voted for the strike to end...as soon as your deceitful FG signs a written agreement. They even said 24-hrs after the agreement is signed they'll return to classes. Has the agreement been signed? NO. So even those who voted did so on a CONDITION that has NOT been met. Is that what you can't comprehend?

People should endeavour to do their own independent research before coming here to say things against ASUU. The government through the president offered 220 billion annually for university funding, and increased the previouly released 100bn to 200bn for this year alone. ASUU in its traditional way, has to reach out to all chapter to decide on calling off the strike based on this new position of government and the result passed to the president. In the last NEC meeting only 61 chapters turned in resolutions. Fifty one of the chapters voted for the strike to be called off while 10 still wanted thhe strike. Fourty out of. 51 attached so. Many conditions for calling the strike off, which was streamlined to three(3) by the NEC. So anyone saying that the chapters did not attach conditions is misinformed. The conditionns are not new demands...1. Since the striking lecturers are still under the employ of the government, their salaries have to be paid. Infact almost all state universities have paid their lecturers their October salaries, some federal universitieshave paid with their IGR. Moreover Some of the universities are on holiday I.e the second semester exams were concluded. 2. Involvement of attorney General, NLC in signing the agreement...I don't think this is too much to ask for! Remember that government initially denied signing the 2009 agreement, and ASUU doesn't want a repeat of this again, so they are asking for more committment from. Government. Getting this. People/bodies involved shouldn't be a big issue If thegovernment is really sincere with their new position. This is the aspect I think the. Government has a problem. With and this shows theinsincerity of government.

The threat of sacking lecturers has never worked and this will. Not be an exception.

safarigirl: you dey mind? Just like they paid the Market Women and co to protest. So Faggae is being sponsored by APC, but these 3 couldn't be sponsored by the FG cuz government can't pay people off. The gullibility of Nigerians is beyond me, see them clapping and shouting that ASUU is divided, because of the opinion of just 2 people? You guys just hear what you want to hear, the lecturers that spoke on Raypower's Fact File on Thursday were in full support of the continuation of the strike, over 5 that called said FG can't be trusted, but una dey happy say just 3 people dey yarn dust. On Wednesday, we shall see who's the real Don, this strike has just begun.
You don't get it. 40% are in full support of the strike. 60% are not.

FYI, lecturers have started lecturing in EBSU.

Hope you dig now undecided

Mazi_Omenuko: For the interest of those listening; ASUU is not making any fresh demands after the 13 hour meeting with the president. All they are saying is that the agrrement of the meeting should be made binding by involving some important stakeholder from the finance sector to sign; datz all!

ASUU don't want to be played twice by the same govt. Sign the damn agreement and the schools will be opened; what's hard in that? If the govt is sincere, that agreement would have been signed already and the classes opened.

What GEJ expected was for ASUU to swallow his words hook, line and sinker and return to classes?

No way! Once beaten, twice shy!
Mazi, pls be honest, ASSU demanded that FG should sign that non of their members wud not be victimised because of the strike. That is a new demand and this demand only came after majority of the branches voted to end the strike. There was another demand that they claim is personal to them, though I havnt verified this.

ASUU national executives act based on instructions given by the members. As at the time of meeting with the president the standing instruction was to discuss the 2009 agreement, which the government took a new position. The NEC took this new position for the members to agree on, which they agreed and requested the CBN to be a part of it. I hope you understand now!
