Lawyers for a Nigerian man who's been on hunger strike have confirmed that he's back in Britain after Home Office attempts to remove him failed. Isa Muazu, who had an asylum claim turned down, was put on a flight to Nigeria on Friday - but it never got there.

Isa Muazu started a hunger strike in Septmber; he claims that if he returns to Nigeria he'll be killed by Islamic extremists. The Home Office has rejected his arguments and after losing a series of legal challenges the 45year old was put on a plane on Friday. The privately chartered jet was in the air for a number of hours but never landed at its destination. It's believed the NigerIan authorities didn't give the pilot landing rights - but it's unclear why that happened. The plane is then thought to have stopped in Malta for two hours before returning to the UK. Mr Muazu's lawyers say he's now back in the medical wing of Harmondsworth immigration centre in west London.

The Home Office is understood to be working with the Nigerian Government to try to secure Isa Muazu's removal. The Nigerians are said to be co-operating.
