Maybe you didn't watch the matches on a clear television.
Mikel was the one that prevented yaya toure from destroying us from midfield.
He was the most creative and tactically disciplined member of our AFCON winning team.

So why didnt Nigeria come close to winning it in 06, 08 and 10 ? if Mikel was that good?

As far as am concerned mikel is a more talented midfielder.
He's just not using his potentials to its maximum.
Look at what mikel did against spain featuring some of the best midfielders of all time.
He created more chances,had more touches and interceptions than iniesta and xavi.
Infact,some spanish football analyst agreed that spain were owned in the midfield.
We only lost due to inexperience and inferior strikers.
Yaya toure is sheer brute force and power with decent creativity,while mikel is what a true creative midfielder should be;
finesse,skill and vision.
He just need to take the bull by the horn and impose himself on matches.

you and i know that there were a lot of factors involved.
The team was not good enough.
The coaching was not good enough.
NFF was messing around.
Even mikel was not as experienced as he is now,e.t.c.

Yaya Toure diserve the award. His effort to his country and club cannot be over emphasized.

omar22: Busquet became a regular in 2010 only because Guardiola was managing the B team and felt that he was ready and wanted to get rid of all the trouble makers under Frank Rijdkaard (Eto, Deco, Belletti, Toure, Marquez etc) and he was the lowest paid player at Barca

The truth is that Yaya wasn't the holding midfielder of the '09 Barca team. Yaya came after Busquets, that is why Yaya could be sent to play as a Center Back.

It is a yearly performance award, not life achievement. Mikel was the best performing player at the Nations cup, check out his side and he was part of the European Europa conquering Chelsea team. Yaya won nothing.

It is a yearly performance award, and the Nations cup was for only a month and the award is not for player of the tournament its meant for 12 months whether he won something or not.

Let us face facts. Suarez had a wonderful season but his biting of Ivanovic and him not clinching a trophy or a champions league spot or the golden boot puts him out of it. Bale didn't score up to 20 goals and didn't even qualify for the Champions league or FA Cup or Carling cup finals clearly puts him out of it.

Van Persie was the key to Man Utd success. Some board members were axed because Mancini made a report stating that Van Persie will decide the next epl winner depending on who gets him and they didn't listen. His goals secured the title for Man Utd and he won the golden boot. How Bale was the winner remains a mystery. Clearly a sentimentally biased voting.

Do you think an English man will gladly vote a foreigner? When Van Persie won the PFA, he won the golden boot. What did Bale win to be best player? I repeat, it was biased. Van Persie was clearly the best, even you know it.

What does Yaya's date of joining Barca have to do with it. Busquets was called into the Barca side from the Guardiola winning Barca B side in 2008 and he favoured him over Yaya who was already in the squad. To Guardiola Busquets comes first in Guardiola's selection before Yaya. Yaya wasn't the defensive midfielder in 2009.

If he likes, let it be he joined the club before Guardiola and Johann Cruyff.

Are there more foreigners at Stoke, Sunderland, Hull City, Cardiff etc. The first team doesn't make the whole team. Please it is impossible. The league is at England.

Please which year was Man Utd trophyless under Fergie and Nistelrooy. I hope Nistelrooy didn't win the gopden boot. Bale won nothing. Just like Yaya in this case.

The award is given based on individual performance not the number of trophies won. if you talk about individual performance then yaya is way ahead of mikel. yaya and mikel to mε are not in the same class.. yaya is going to win the african footballer of the year too..imagine man city without yaya and chelsea without mikel..imagine the difference. smiley
