You can't lead Yoruba race, Oyinlola tells Tinubu
By Tunde Abatan (Lagos) and Gbenga Faturoti (Osogbo)

Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, on Wednesday cautioned that former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, cannot lead the Yoruba race, coinciding with a demand by Tinubu's former Deputy, Femi Pedro, that he should be probed.

Oyinlola linked "the desperation of the Action Congress (AC) to the fact that both Tinubu and his National Chairman hail from Osun State," and enthused that by 2011, Tinubu's hold on Lagos would be broken "as all forces of genuine progress would be united in defeating the political tendency he represented.

"A fake person cannot lead the Yoruba race. A person whose name, background and educational attainments are enmessed in controversy would not be the leader of a progressive race like the Yoruba."

Pedro spoke with reporters in Osogbo after he visited Oyinlola over his victory at the tribunal.

He declared that the recent publications by THISDAY on alleged contract scandals involving Tinubu are just a tip of the iceberg.

"You have not seen anything. Men and women of goodwill expect the anti-corruption agencies to probe Tinubu's deals and bring him to book," he stressed.

"We are quite aware of the antics of the opposition party and their sponsors from Lagos shedding crocodile tears and making baseless and unfounded allegations against some members of the tribunal.

"We, from Lagos State, are very familiar with their style and antics. These people are no democrats but desperate power seekers who will do anything possible to attain power. They have perfected the art of propaganda using ghost writers and some sections of the media to dish out falsehood.

"When certain judgments favour them, they publicly express their confidence in the judiciary but where they do not favour them they are quick to malign and cast aspersion on the integrity of the judiciary.

"They know how to rush impeachment process through the legislature and the judiciary when they want to perpetrate acts of wickedness. They have little or no respect for the judiciary and the rule of law but rather pay lip service as champions of democracy."

Tinubu's Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Ajanaku, reacted in a statement that if it is the will of God for him to lead the Yoruba and indeed the country "nobody can stop him."

He said Pedro is looking for a godfather in the person of Oyinlola, having failed in his ambition.

"If he felt that Tinubu was corrupt how come he didn't raise an objection and resign from the government?
He is not a reliable character in spite of the fact that he was given an opportunity to serve in the government as Deputy Governor and decided to dump his party and joined the Labour Party (LP) which he never believed in."

If the yoruba needs leadership at all, I think the only viable person to lead the yoruba race now is Senator Kofoworola
Bucknor-Akerele.

Akerele what? Can she even lead her Family not to talk of a street.

Tinubu is the most popular Yoruba politician gaining local and international acclaim Is it Femi Pedro , Oyinlola, Obanikoro, Akala, Agagu or whom

Tinubu's credentials are far better at least he was able to stand up to the tyranny of OBJ while others were in the praise singing wagon

My brother Tinubu has no credential.

When it comes to the Yoruba leadership we always choose people of high indisputable moral , educational , discipline background. the late Pa Adesanya comes to mind, may his soul rest in peace.

@bilymuse- what did Abraham Adesanya of blessed memory do for the yoruba race? As far as I am concerned, they were only using the name of Awolowo to gain popularity and sympathy. They couldnt win elections or influence the yoruba people.
It is better we have a more dynamic and urbane person as a yoruba leader, rather than old men who only know how to converge in Ijebu Igbo and discuss issues that wont make any impact.

As for Pedro, I only see him as a frustrated politician. If he knew Tinub stole money, why didnt he resign, at least he was the deputy governor then. Was it not when he didnt get the governorship ticket that he jumped ship?

Let those who dont have any good story to tell as per politics keep quiet.

You are joking right? How quickly can we forget the man that stood up to Sani Abacha when he was on a mission to exterminate the yoruba race. Just don't say this thing outside before you get mugged.
