Obasanjo Spearheading A Secret Agenda, Says Colonel Umar

A former military governor of Kaduna State, retired Colonel Abubakar Dangiwa Umar, has reacted to the ongoing political squabble between President Goodluck Jonathan and former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
 
In an interview he granted to the Hausa Service of the Voice of America (VOA), which SaharaReporters monitored in Abuja, Mr. Umar called on Nigerians to stop celebrating Obasanjo as a sincere statesman. Instead, he accused Mr. Obasanjo of spearheading a secret agenda tied to his personal political interests.
 
Mr. Umar, one of the former military officers to have opposed the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, stated that it was dangerous for Nigerians to uncritically take Mr. Obasanjo at his word. He added that Nigerians should realize from the former president’s antecedents that he is a deceitful and insincere man who was complicit in creating the mess Nigeria is in today.
 
“What is it that [Mr. Jonathan] did not do with impunity?” asked the former military governor. “It was the same man that attempted third term and was confronted headlong. He is the [same] man that destroyed our nation. [He] wanted [former Governor Peter] Odili before it failed due to some challenges with EFCC. He later imposed a sick man as a leader and we are where we are today,” added Mr. Umar.
 
He further described Mr. Obasanjo as “the same man that gloried and celebrated corruption in Nigeria,” adding that the former president “ensured that corruption got its solid foundation, and today he is the moral voice of Nigeria. It is dangerous and scary. Our citizens should be critical.”
 
Mr. Umar contended that Mr. Obasanjo did not believe in the principles he wrote about in a leaked letter that descended on Mr. Jonathan with harsh words. “Do not be carried away by his noise about democracy and justice, it is all a ruse. He did [govern Nigeria] and we saw how he was tyrannical, a dictator. It is laughable and dangerous that Obasanjo is the man we want to take seriously. I am begging our people to be critical and thorough so as to unravel his real agenda.”
 
In the interview, Mr. Umar cautioned Nigerians to recognize that, “There is more to it than what we can see. There are certain things we don't know. [Obasanjo] said that he gave Generals Babangida, Abdulsalami and Danjuma copies of his letter. Why did he not give [a copy to] General Gowon? It means something is in the offing. And it is scary today that Nigerians are taking Obasanjo seriously. It is important that we look at the message and the messenger critically.”

Before OBJ accuses GEJ, I humbly appeal that he considers these:

Hlo Broda, u love ur write up , its is full of fact.... And it is unfortunate dat OBJ lacks d moral capacity to justify his accusations.... But d case is dat, are d contents of d letter true or not, let us put political parties or tribe aside... because OBJ has such a bad record, are we going to open our eyes and allow GEJ end up dat way? If so, i pity d future of dis country.... Our past leaders av failed us, we shouldnt allow present and future leaders to fail us, to use their position to advance their own personal affairs.... We must wake up and stop reffering to our past failed leaders, our leaders as from now should be held responsible for any mismanagement of public funds and corrupt practices, if dat is not done, Nigeria will continue dis way. Col Umar,you have said what any sane nigerian is aware of. GEJ and OBJ are presently at dagger drawn due to the former's belief in Rule of law and due process as against OBJ criminality and plan to perpetually remain relevant in nigerian politics. His plan to control GEJ has failed and as such,his frustration. GEJ is the best president of nigeria so far.

If I were GEJ, the best way to address the issues raised by OBJ in his letter would be to lock him up till 2019

Someone should tell me that the contents of the letter are not true. GEj should open the floodgates, put everybody's record in the public domain. Everbody should carry his cross.

Luckily, GEJ is in a position to make amends.He should use the existing institutions to clean the system .. Once and for all

One step at a time bros. First of all he has to legitimise his quarter by addressing all the talk of treason and corruption. If he moves against OBJ with the hammer and he hasn't cleared himself, he will by himself don the garb of despot fighting his critics and he will be truly finished. Politically at least.

That's what I find most annoying about the man. Is it that he is too corrupt to open anybody's nyash or everybody covered their tracks too well

The only way such an issue can generate publicity and attention is if it is coming from a politically exposed person of very high calibre. Should any "other" guy write such a letter, it would simply be waved aside as a "hungry man's rant".

In politics, it's not usually done that way....heck he will struggle or may even loose the 2015 election.

Any corruption case against the likes of Orji kalu, Tinubu, IBB, obj, Abdulsalam, udenwa, ikimi, el-rufai etc will be viewed as a political prosecution targeted on opposition parties or some ethnic groups. This will in turn hamper his chances at the 2015 polls.

Obj and Co are very afraid of what will be their fate should GEJ win a second term. A term he won't have to worry about what any ethnic group would think before he deals with any Maga!

In that case, obj and Co will be very safe with a corrupt newbies like Lamido and Amechi.

I'm all for the prosecution of these mongreals now, but in politics, we all know that personal interests usually come first.

Obasanjo is a bag of irresponsibility, a man who phocked his daughter in law can best be described evil. He's scared of any possibility of having a leader whose performance will dwarf his personality. His war against Jonathan is not for the good of the country, but to force JOE BOY to concede some grounds.

It is not who is in position to write that we are talking about here, it is who is QUALIFIED MORALLY, after all, many ordinary citizens have been writing open letters to GEJ. The crux of the matter is that after God gave Obj power on a platter of gold, Obj became greedy and selfish. During his era, he failed to nip corruption in the bud and allowed corruption to flourish. After completing his 2 terms, Obj wanted to go for a third term despite his poor leadership. Furthermore, he was supposed to nurture a competent leader to take over from him instead the animal called man in him played out when he imposed on Nigerians a sickler who was neither willing nor ready to lead Nigeria, just because he wanted to appease the senior Yaradua, on personal ground, not for the interest of Nigerians. In addition, he handpicked GEJ as vice to the sickler. Therefore, Obj is the cause of Nigeria's problem. Apart from that many unresolved high profile assassinations took place during his time, of persons alleged to be against him.

So, my grouse with OBJ is that he failed to set Nigeria on the right path when he had all the physical and celestial supports to do so. He is not clean too. Obj should stop taking Nigerians for fools. Obj is the cause of Nigeria's problem. Period.

Has he condemned assinations during his tenure as president? What about $16billion meant for NEPA rehabilitation and lots more. If Nigerians know the true reason behind OBJ's letter, they will bury him alive.
