I was beginning to wonder how they managed to bend his joints to make him sit from the lying state he should be in...now I know they simply placed a log on the chair. Nice preservation though, eyes and lips are properly sown or glued else even me for no sleep this night... grin

That is very frightening sha.Maybe this is the traditional lying-in-state as opposed to the lying the dead body in the real lying-in-state.

This culture exists in Igboland for a titled Nze n'Ozo man. Never knew any other people have it. I guess the difference is that in Igboland an Nze is buried seated upright with an elephant tusk on one hand.

So many idiots on Nairaland.

Someone else's culture doesn't have to make sense to you.

If the people of Akure have this tradition, who are you dunderheads to question it?

Was Mandela's body in the morgue when it was lying in state for 3 days?

They make fun of African culture but are quick to imbibe American culture even when many of them have never stepped on a plane before.

whether they stand him on his head or his legs, i do not care. however, i have a question for those condemning the practice - how is this different from lying in state (in principle) other than the fact that they didnt lie him on his back inside a transparent casket?
and to the next akure king, please ask ur chief to use a transparent top casket for ur lie in state when you die

Avoid castigating other denominations or other religions, that is what we call being civil. If you say rubbish about my religion to my face, you don't expect a hug from me.
