** Vandalism of Gas Pipelines Causes 22% Drop in Electricity Supply- Prof Nebo

Chineme Okafor in Abuja

The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, has said the constant destruction of key gas to power infrastructure contributes to about 22 per cent of overall drops in electricity supply experienced in Nigeria’s Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) especially recently.

Nebo noted the act of sabotage against the country gas-to-power pipeline networks by unscrupulous individuals have taken a different turn with discoveries that dynamites have often been used to blow out the lines.

He gave an instance where the Western gas supply trunk line from Warri through Escravos was found to have been damaged at many points far more than it was initially imagined.

The minister told members of the House of Representatives committee on power which were led by their chairman, Hon. Patrick Ikhariale, on an oversight visit to the ministry that: “Another one at the Eastern axis at Bokoloma were punctured at many points and it would take the next one month to fix.”

Stating the impacts of these acts on the nation’s electricity supply system and economy at large, Nebo requested the parliamentarians to enact stiff laws to ensure that heavy penalties are meted on the saboteurs while serving as deterrence to others, insisting that such acts should not be tolerated.

“The worrisome problem associated with vandalism according informed the convocation of stakeholders’ forum by the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA). This forum brought together all security agencies to tackle the menace, it was resolved that information sharing among all stakeholders is key to fighting vandalism,” Nebo added.

I don't believe it is being perpetrated by opposition however why can't Nigerians understand the meaning of patriotism and national interest. We as Nigerians should be guardians and not "vandals and saboteurs" of our own economy.

I believe more money should be spent on orientation than waiting for offenders to prosecute. Nigerian property belongs to us all and not to Government alone.

Nation building is a collective responsibility so it becomes very unfortunate when dogs suspected to be sponsored by APC go to vandalise critical gas pipelines because of the political ambitions of Tinubu and Buhari. Rather than contribute to national progress and development, some animals are busy scheming on how to destroy.

We are quick to compare ourselves with countries like Ghana but are Ghanini
ans sabotaging their own govt or country in this manner?

What are the solutions to the menaco of these dogs?
1. Build enough power generation buffer so that disruption of one power plant will not significantly impact on power supply. This will be the case in 1-2 years time.
2. 24hrs Surveillance of gas pipelines. How feasible is this? I dont know. May be with the recently launched unmanned aerial vehicle can help tackle vandalism and Boko Haram?

Meanwhile, whenever suspected APC thugs go to vandalise gas pipelines, we owe Nigerians the responsibility of INFORMING them. Call it excuse or whatever you like, Nigerians deserve to know that gas pipelines are being vandalised by ENEMIES OF PROGRESS.

i just don't wanna be guilty of falsum in uno, falsum in omnibus, that is the reason why i had to cancel some of those gibberish you typed thinking they are sensible.

Very obvious the pipeline vandalism never started in nigeria in 2010, of course it has been existing long before then. How will a sane mind now attribute the menace to the opposition?

So Buhari and Tinubu went to niger delta to bribe GEJ's kinsmen to be vandalising the pipelines? Little wonder GEJ's administration is bereft of idea and always looking for oppositions and criticisms to attack.

APC thugs vandalise pipelines! Joke of the century.
Who is in charge of the security forces in the country? This is what happens when you contract former oil thieves and militants to guide pipelines. A little bit like hiring a former burgler to guide your house.
May God help us through this period of mediocrity.

The very fact that the vandalism is happening in your principals strongholds suggests the exact opposite of your "suspicion"! It seems its pro-govt characters (probably including yourself) that are damaging the gas lines in a bid to make excuses for the glaring failure of power improvement!

Else why aren't other regions having vandalism and why has nobody been caught or reported by the "good citizens" who see opposition in every dream yet are supposed agents of "transformation"

APC can send its agents anywhere in the country. Most of the gas pipelines and power plants are located in the Niger Delta anyway.

please, anytime you wanna post, try to consult a conventionally agreed wisest man in your environment(if there is any). Show him whatever you wanna post, if he gives you the go ahead, that is when you should post.

With those heavy money given to the militants and Frederick Fasheun to insure and protect the pipelines, you can still come here to tell us they are vandalising the pipelines?
Sorry bro, i can't help your folly!

These people just keep insulting our intelligence everyday.
Are they just knowing that lines are vandalized?
What are they doing to prevent a future occurrence?
The unmanned drone GEJ lunched why not deploy it to secure the pipelines?

When they fail and discover they can't actualize their lies, they lie again.

Why can we not ever have a government that owns up to its failure? They complain about vandals like it isn't part of their duties to provide security and get rid of vandals. After voting billions for security every year, all we are fed with are excuses. God save this country!

So why doesn't PDP and GEJ send its own agents there to protect them? You, as an example - wouldn't you be more gainfully employed holding a Dane gun or catapult guarding power installations than haranguing everyone here with these lies and excuses?

Or PDP agents prefer crude oil bunkering and so you all refuse to go guard power facilities? GEJ should have you tied to a sensitive electrical item, maybe a transformer!
